Re: Auxiliary switch secrets

You can add an additional switch, but this is not necessary, because you can control the NAIS via the plotter.

Depends on what AIS you have. The plotter on our boat can only switch "transmit" on or off. The AIS (Raymarine AIS 500) is always on, no way to switch power off unless you pull the plug. So the AIS will always know where it is as its dedicated GPS will also be on, irrespective of whether it is in transmit mode or not.

The previous owner was the original owner?
What is the make and model of your boat?
Is it on the 12vt or 120vt side of the electrical panel?

Sure you can always turn off an AIS. Just put a switch in the power line.

When you turn it on, does the neighbor's garage door open?

Re: Auxiliary switch secrets

We had an extra switch, nominally an "aux" switch, after rewiring. When that got done the new labels were made up an "spare" just didn't seem right. SCUTTLE CHARGES.

No one messes with that switch.

Yup, I have a 'silent mode' in case I want to avoid being IDed by law enforcement and other boaters, at a distance. Realize, to really go silent you need to turn off the RADAR and all the VHFs and your cell phone and iPad, anything that can be turned on remotely or interrogated remotely.

In other words, it aint worth the effort.
