380: Any 380 owners with experience installing Air Conditioning?

Thanks in advance for your replies. I am purchasing a 2002 Lagoon 380 to sail primarily in the Chesapeake Bay where I feel A/C is a must. I am looking for information on where you ran the vent tubes and where you placed the actual cabin vents.

Any help is appreciated.

I have a 2000 Lagon 38 with a/c in the salon and a separate one in the owners cabin. What do you mean by vent tubes? I can send pics of what I have, location, duct work, etc. let me know.

As I said before we have 2 a/c units the one in the salon is a 16000 btu and the one in the owners cabin is a 8000 btu. I also have a nex gen generator 5.5 which is able to run both of them but not much else unless you turn off a unit. The one in the salon is located under the couch in the compartment closest to the fridge. One duct goes behind the fridge and to the right side of the sink in the master head. Two are run to each side of the shelf behind the couch. And another one goes to the wall in the port side opposite the bathroom door. The unit in the master has one duct that goes to the wall at the foot of the bed on the right side. I can send pics but I'm challenged in that area.

Thank you for this information. It is very helpful. I am looking at putting in 2 16000 BTU systems and a slightly larger gen set.

Careful with over-sizing a/c. That can be as bad as under-sizing cuz the unit will constantly cycle on and off.

I was considering the same thing? Can anybody give us a ball park on the cost of adding a/c? Are two units required? Or can 1 unit handle the whole boat?

The two units we have will cool the boat on a hot July day in centeral Florida but they are a little undersized. It takes a while for them to cool the boat down however they will do the job and at night no problem. As far as cost, the units were in the boat when we bought it. Unlike a home a/c unit everything is contained. The only thing you need to do is run the duct work, electric, drain for the cooling water, and a pump and water inlet for cooling. Ok may be a big deal sorta but could be done diy. You could sub some of the work out if you needed to. If your going to add a generator later on units bigger than ours are going to require a larger generator. Hope this helps.
