Swedish couple looking for ship to board in Central America!

Ohoy all captains!
We're a Swedish couple travelling Central America, looking for an interesting way to go down south. The coming weeks we will be in Belize or the Livingstone/Rio Dulce region. We are very flexible about our itinerary and would like to know if someone will come by this region the upcoming weeks?
We only have one week of sailing experience, but would love to learn as much as we can from you. We hope that we, apart from our share of the communal costs, will be able to contribute with music, our cooking skills, and good athmosphere. We speak Swedish, English, Spanish and master some basic Caribbean-flavoured pirate-lingo. Neither smokers, nor drinkers.
We are interested in sailing from wherever in Belize/Guatemala to wherever in Nicaragua or possibly Costa Rica, depending of what would suit you best.

Hope to hear from you soon - send a PM or a mail!
Har-har, Per and Ida

Re: Swedish couple looking for ship to board in Central America!

Find a captain that tunes into the NW Caribbean net on the SSB radio, 6209 at 8 am Honduras time. Both the Rio Dolce and Roatan have local VHF nets that boaters meet on daily. Also check with marinas. That is how the boating community connects down here.
You pretty much have to be standing on the dock with your bags packed, so to speak.
If you are crossing borders, there will be some paperwork to sort out and most countries will want to see a prepaid ticket to leave their country before they let you enter. Be aware your captain will be held responsible for anyone he brings into a country.
That said, it's done all the time and great fun.

Thanks a lot for the information Lorenzo! Going to tune in to the radio tomorrow and see if someone's south-bound. Also mingled around a little bit at the weekly quiz at The Kangaroo yesterday. Without success, but all ways are good except the bad ones

Thanks for the offer, but we are still in Rio Dulce and haven't planned to go further south than Costa Rica.
Trevlig resa, det låter fantastiskt!
