Pick Me - Pick Me !

Hi all

I’m Christie. I’m 31 and from Australia.

I am currently on the hunt for a bit of a boating adventure if anyone can help.

I am part way through an adventure called 30 Days for 30 Years where I’m basically doing my bucket list around the world. I do a different thing every 30 days. So far I’ve run the Great Wall of China Marathon, worked out on a pearl boat diving for pearls, learned to make cheese in Holland, trained eagles in Mongolia, worked on a Norwegian reality TV show shot in Malta on the Mediterranean and last month I was in Tennessee living like Dolly Parton for a month! Ie I recorded Jolene in a studio, did a photo shoot recreating some of her classic black and white images, cooked out of her cookbook etc. Check out my website 30days30years and you will get a better idea.

One of my months I had planned to go to Tahiti to sail around the Marquesas Islands but I am also open to jumping onboard a boat anyway in Central or South America if anyone knows of anything going? My dates are flexible for anytime in the next three months to the end of April.

I haven’t had a heap of boating experience (I have a few friends who have yachts and like I said I worked on a pearl boat for a while but that’s hardly the same thing!) but I am a quick study, hard working and super fun! And I’m a mean cook, which always helps!

I am currently in Costa Rica but can pretty much get to wherever I need to be to get onboard.

Many thanks

Christie

Re: Pick Me - Pick Me !

I dont want a crew with attitude, just good crew,,,experienced or not.
leaving San diego around the middle of april heading back to Oz.
There will be two guys on the boat,,one with no experience and the other,
a delivery skipper…
if you think you can handle 30kt winds and 15-20ft sea’s and still make gr8
coffee plus not bitch during watches,,,give me a call or mail.

Re: Pick Me - Pick Me !

After reading your blog, I know you are serious. Nothing wakes you up to life than a close mate, your age, looking at the end of life. Those of you making an offer, be prepared for her to say "yes". Too bad you didn't show up 18 years ago, I did 800 miles on the Yukon River in Alaska in my dinghy, setting up camp at the river's edge each night, stringing my sloper antenna for my HF, and talking to my cruising friends.

Re: Pick Me - Pick Me !

Currently in Key West hoping to find one or two crew to head to Isla Mujeres, Mexico. The wife decided to fly. Yes hurricane season is pressing on. Have now missed a great weather window. Another will arrive soon. We're on a 36' Islander sloop. Wife and I are both age 63 and retired. Let us know what you think.

Re: Pick Me - Pick Me !

(Hi ) Jack,,sorry mate,i'm currently in Cabo San Lucas getting ready to
bash a boat north to San Diego which will take me about two weeks.
Don't know about your deadline but if you're still in Key West when i finish
here,i will be more than happy to help you......
Other wise,,if you find another competent crew you can sail directly across
to the Cuban coast,,a couple of miles off,,,the current around there is
either a little quieter or i have even found a west bound flow there some
times...If you run into any trouble along the north coast, there are numerous
entrances that you can go into to get behind the reef and find shelter.
When you have made it to the western end of Cuba and you need a break,
there is plenty of water going back into La Lena,,fishing camp,,,from there
just wait until you have a good weather report either from Noaa or
Chris Parker,,point your bow 30 mile south of Isla and let the Gulf stream
do the rest........
Fair winds and good luck to the both of you....

I am in Nova Scotia (not very handy I know) and plan to sail to Newport area, then to Bermuda and Caribean. Time scale September - November. Let me know if you are interested.

Re: Pick Me - Pick Me !

Hi Christie,

Went to your website. Very nice project.

Towards the end of each November there are well above 200 sailing boats leaving Canary Islands (Africa) for West Indies. You can contact the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) organizers and ask if they can help you in finding a boat. The adventure lasts 14-30 days, depending on boat size/season.

Good luck in finding the boat!
All the best!
