Re: Ladies Afloat - How to Search ?

Hey.

I agree with Atoll.. Have a list of questions and set criteria etc.

I would recommend going a step further...

Ask for a copy of their Passport & drivers licence and obtain a written authority from them to obtain a Police check. Depending on what country they are from you can get these details. At least that may rule out any criminal history. If they refuse that.. walk away.. They have something to hide.

Also with their details Google them, amazing what you can find out about someone. Get on their Facebook... chat to their friends.. the more people you can talk to the better.

After all that.. go with your gut feeling.

You definitely have to have your own cabin for privacy. May have to share the head depending on crew numbers and size of boat.

cheers

Frans

Wow - What a palaver. I've never had any problems with any crew. My mindset being that they are a necessary imbuggerance for insurance purposes on delivery. So I feed 'em and teach 'em (if they want to learn) and now have a pleasant bunch of lads and lassies who want to sail with me. Sure, I've had a few who wont be invited back and more than likely, some who wouldn't want to come with me again as well.

Can't see this one on the thread - Did I get "edited"?? If so, it would be nice to be told....

"3) don't be afraid to walk away, trust me, if you have a little 'bad feeling' ashore, you will have a big bad feeling offshore." author--Atoll

When all is said and done, there is a bottom line and this is it. Those fluttering yellow flags can turn to red in a heartbeat. I like the idea of having a plan B vacation. One simple suggestion (PM) was asking for photo's of the cabin, captain, crew, boat dingy. Picture is worth a thousand words.
