Want to Buy 44' to 48' bluewate cutter rigged monohull

Retired couple ready to give up life as dirt dwellers and move onboard. Actively seeking to purchase a cutter rigged, bluewater monohull for live-aboard cruisers. Will consider models 10-30 years old. Please no major refit project boats.

Ideal boat is equipped with: mid-cockpit, shoal draft 5'6" or less (no CBs), deck-saloon, windlass, centerline queen berth, genset, refrig/freezer, A/C, watermaker, solar, wind, SSB, davits, liferaft, and washer/dryer.

Examples of hulls we like: Island Packet 420 or IP45, Gulfstar 44 & 47-50 Sailmaster, Hylas 44 & 46, Tayana 48, Irwin 52 & 43, Northwind 44, Mason 44 & 53, Bristol 47. Captain is 6'5" so headroom is key.

I know...Hey, we don't want to be camping, and I have a bride to keep happy, Ok!

How about Jeanneau DS?

Some of the older S&S designs have great headroom but usually deeper drafts too.

Good luck.

Neither the IP 42 or 45 are mid-cockpit. Both are aft cockpit vessels. IP 445/465 and 485s are mid (center) cockpit boats. I'd recommend looking at British Moody 46, 47 (one for sale in Charleston) and 54s, but at 6'5", you'd touch not the bottom but the top.

IP makes a IP445 that is a mid-cockpit.

The mid-cockpit is our ideal, but we understand we made need to settle for an aft cockpit, so we are open to those models of similar lengths.

Re: Want to Buy 44' to 48' bluewate cutter rigged monohull

IP does make a center cockpit 465 boat in addition to the IP 485.
See Island Packet 465 | Island Packet Yachts
That is from the IP home page. The 445 is the same boat but with a sugar scoop step-down transom, thus 2 feet shorter. The 465 has a traditional transom. Both have the same interior and the same center cockpit.

Yeap, IMHO those are nice boats and would work except they are unfortunately beyond our budget. We top out at $300k.

Naturally, we are open to older boats whose "bones" are good but needs updating the equipment and possible cosmetic repairs. Hence, we've looked at boats all the way down in price to $115k.

Amel makes a 46 footer and a 53 footer which will fit your budget. Both are easy to sail by a couple.

IP's sail like bricks! I usually pass them with only my mizzen sail

Kidding.

Amel's are well constructed boats and are within our budget. Unfortunately, the Captain found space tight behind the helm and fixed dodger tight and the cockpit seats not to the length we enjoy. We like sleeping in the cockpit on nice evenings in quite anchorages. For many these boats are a great solution.

If you're open to an aft-cockpit, we like our B473 because I'm about an inch shorter than you and I'm very comfortable with my air draft down below (and in the cockpit, which doesn't get talked about much but matters a lot). Finding a cutter rigged 473 could be a challenge, but they are out there. Enjoy the hunt.

Don't be afraid to look at a 15-20 year old Oyster in the 44-50ft range. You might be surprised. $300k might be enough.

Contact the Oyster Brokerage, they'll be very helpful.

Geoleo - I'm familiar with the Brewer models 44 and 12.8. Where is your boat located?

Feel free to send us info and pics on your boat. If you prefer send a PM.

We about to fly back to US to bring our boat home to OZ. But she is currently on the market. A Kelly Peterson 44 but not shoal draft, centre cockpit, solar, wind, lots of extras but you would need to be quick as we back on the 22nd. Pm me if you want to take a look.

Im biased but we love our Brewer 44. We had basically the same requirements and the brewer 44 fit most of all your requirements. Still in the process of upgrading ours with solar and watermaker. We take off summer of 2017. Good luck.
