Re: Raymarine ST50 forward wind transducer

I don't know about bearings, but other parts (cups and feather) are available from Westmarine etc and are reasonably priced ($35? From memory) - just make sure the feather isn't bent, the packaging can make it sit crooked and deform). Swapping those is easy, held in place by just Allen screws.

Good luck!
Anton

Re: Raymarine ST50 forward wind transducer

Thanks Anton
Yes I saw the parts from West Marine and Defender; but the wind vane is not rotating freely enough for me, and probably has a bearing issue
I did a search on Google and so far, only a UK company refurbish them at a cost of GBP180 wow.... almost a new unit price so trying to find someone on our forum that may know who can repair them or selling a working used arm

I would be interested too - darn cormorants and their guano... Same model, so if you find a schematic of how it comes apart I'd like to know as well.

Re: Raymarine ST50 forward wind transducer

I had this issue and although it's a temp fix I removed the vane and cup and cleaned the area of corrosion and dropped a few drops of gun lube on each side and let it soak in overnight and they spin real nice and it's been a year.......😟

Raymarine ST50 forward wind transducer

I wasn't thinking about sending it to them, but getting hold of a diagram so I can do it myself.

It's nothing electronic, just mechanical gumming up of parts. Shouldn't be rocket science to clean it out.

Jeff
Question: mine seems to have about 90 degrees free movement then a slight resistance to turn. Same 90 degrees free movement will apply again from the last stop. Is this normal or the bearing is suspect?

Yes, indeed a bearing but try the lube anyway...

Re: Raymarine ST50 forward wind transducer

Update guys

Removed the plastic broken vane and cups. Cleaned the gunk away from the shafts and oiled them as mentioned above, and voila, it's free and rotating
Ordered the part kit from Defender, so next will be testing if the unit transmit to the display

Thanks for the info

Re: Raymarine ST50 forward wind transducer

Do your shafts on the vane have flats on them? If not the vane/cup assembly you ordered is not going to fit that vane unless they are modified. Raymarine doesn't sell the vane/cup replacement without flats anymore.

If you need to modify them, ask and Ill post directions.

Also for about $60 US you can get the bearings/instructions off eBay from the guy in the UK.
