Pocket cruising cat for blue water sailing and live-aboard

I'm looking for a pocketcruising catamaran for potential live-aboard and ocean sailing.

Budget is tight at just £30,000 give or take. I don't mind doing some work myself, nor spending a bit to get it properly prepped (at a later date)

The key is having two good cabins, standing room in the saloon, diesel engine, decent electrics, rigging in decent shape, no osmosis/delimitation. The rest can be sorted out later.

Not interested in pod-style cats like the Edel 35, or any with outboards considering my intended use.

With the above in mind I'm probably looking at the following:

Heavenly Twins 27 MK5
Prout Quest 31
Prout Quest 33

All sell for slightly less than my budget, but aren't that plentiful.

Perhaps even a Snowgoose 35 is doable with a bit of haggling, or a Comanche 32.

Happy to consider other models if there are any i've missed.

Vessel should ideally be located in Europe or Caribbean.

Re: Pocket cruising cat for blue water sailing and live-aboard

You have an unrealistic combination of expectations.

Bluewater Pocketcruiser is a paradox.

Many of the cats in this size range have outboards. I found 1 Prout 33 in the entire US for $39,000 (US) however it has an outdrive.

£30,000 for a Cat in good repair with good engine, running gear, standing and running rigging and sails is a very tall order.

Based on your criteria, I would give up on electronics and expect that would need to be replaced.

Re: Pocket cruising cat for blue water sailing and live-aboard

Budget should be ok in the UK/Europe for the boats listed. Problem is they are all sold now or under offer. Well there are two available well below budget, but not quite what I'm after. Remember I do expect to d some work, or have to replace some items. I'd also rather buy direct from the owner if possible.

Heavenly Twins are well known for circumnavigations, and Prouts 31-37 are well known for crossing the atlantic, so I'm not worried about them from that point of view.

Mainly wondering if there is anything else similar out there other than Catalcs, which I really don't like the look of.

There's a Snowgoose 35 on these forums that looks well sorted, but of course is £9k over budget. I am aware of another in the med though, again well sorted, that I've made enquires about.

Best value is going to be a Catalac.
Next Heavenly twins.
After that it depends on a stroke of luck..

Found this:

Prout Snowgoose 37 for sale Greece, Prout boats for sale, Prout used boat sales, Prout Sailing Yachts For Sale 1985 Prout Snowgoose 37 - Apollo Duck

Needing new linings though would scream to me that there's been a water problem somewhere. Though IIRC that model is solid not balsa cored.

This Twins 27 looks interesting

Seacraft Yacht Sales, Inc (Seattle, WA)

Belle was built in 1999 at the renowned boatyard of Devlin Designing Boat Builders to the design of the late Phil Bolger for a knowledgeable owner who fell in love with the design. According to Sam Devlin, to build this boat again at his yard would cost well over $120,000!

Re: Pocket cruising cat for blue water sailing and live-aboard

The Heavenly Twins is safe but very slow. My choice would be the Snowgoose 35, which were a dream boat when I first started cruising. I envied these for their space, safety, they sail ok and they look ok and but in your budget you will probably have to trade some of your must haves or pay more. The Solaris would be excellent but probably way over your budget. Neither are what I would descibe as pocket cruising cats.
The Sailcraft Iroquois is affordable but you need to be an experienced cat sailor to sail these safely. They are well built and can cross oceans and circumnavigate, in the right hands. As standard they are outboard although there are diesel ones around. The Sailcraft Commanche are a bit bigger and safer and may be in the budget.
I would talk to Mark at Multihull World in Thornhan marina if you are not in contact already. He has contacts everywhere and knows Prout stuff well as he owns Broad Blue which took over Prout. He also knows and brokers pretty well every type of cat ever made. Good luck.

Re: Pocket cruising cat for blue water sailing and live-aboard

Thanks.

Been regularly checking multihull world and multihull centre listings. They don't have anything yet to make it worth while a visit.

Yeah a Snowgoose 35 seems decent if I can find one not too far off budget though it would leave less in the kitty for repairs/work

This one comes with complete a dead body

Re: Pocket cruising cat for blue water sailing and live-aboard

There is a Brit that is going to sell his 30 foot cat here in the Western Caribbean but that's a long bloody way from Britain unless you had any plans to cruise in the tropics. It's well fitted out and has two inboard diesels plus it sailed from England to here so you know it's a tough little bugger. If you have an interest, I'll hook you up. R
