This is the motor I have. If you have a perkins manual this is what they show as the "new perkins 4-108m

What a lot of useless bickering .... a good rebuilt engine is a good rebuilt engine. Learn to do the work yourself and save a ton of money. I got my engine core for free out of a fishing boat. It was the refrigeration auxillary. The bellhousing I got from a guy that was going electric ... again for free. The Borg Warner is orginal to the boat. Total rebuild cost about $1000. New sleeves, pistons and the works.
On that note. I have an extra, rebuildable Perkins 4-107 short block, no head, but with a bellhousing and short Borg Warner trans I'll let go for $1500. Has a newly turned crank, sleeves, and pistons.
PM me

WOW what can a guy say to that. Loved the way you turned my ad into your sales platform though. I guess you get what you pay for. Boat where I live doesn't translate that way. But you did manage to break out a thousand.

The one I had completed yes. The one I posted has just been finished and is complete except for oil and trans cooler and altenator.

I find it hard to understand, people who have no interest in a product put for sale here will tell every one else that the cost is to much. Save the world people.

Salty I can't tell you for sure which one Westerbeke used for their 58 but this might help you.

Re: Perkins 4-108 remanufactured bobtail

I had bought 2 of these. I am fixing to take off on a extended cruise. I want to sell the one that's not in my boat. I want to thank everyone for all the advice that I have received in regards to the value of these motors. If any of you have discovered that nothing is cheap in the boating world. I am considering trades and offers. This motor is a Perkins 4-108m with the Bowman heat exchanger. Needs starter and Alternator. All remanufacture like new.

Re: Perkins 4-108 remanufactured bobtail

I hear you Scoobert. But unlike a lot of people you are most likely a good wrench. I have been through a lot this year getting my boat together. And this motor is a good one. The hard thing about a rebuilt engine is all the things that are 30 years old that you reinstall or try to find. All of the parts for Perkins are being snapped up and by the time you get to the part of finding everything you are in in shipping about as much as you are the parts. I was in Mexico running my new engine had 1 hour on it and all looked good the only thing that wasn't new was my Jabsco 7200 water pump">raw water pump. It exploded with me standing over it at about 1200 rpms. $512.00 at Marine Store in San Diego plus the trip up there. So when you start throwing 30 year old stuff back on your engine remember this. I was in a hard way for dough when I posted this ad. But now it is done and I am ready to go. So with all the folks that have looked at this post and considered buying, Bring it. I am ready to go.
