Re: Leopard 46, 2006

You can buy from Mooring a new Leopard 48 for $690K, one can estimate that a new Leopard 46 will be around $640k
A catamaran may lose approx. 50% of its equivalent new value in the first 5 years so you are down to ~ $320K
In the following 5 years it may lose around 7% of its value every year before it may (or may not) flatten.
So a 10 years old Leopard 46 may be in the range of $240K.
I am going to purchase a Leopard 46 or 48, 5 to 10 years old within the next 6 months, I listed the above numbers not to offend you but to layout my expectations regarding boat cost.
If you are interested let me know at dvopks@gmail.com

I think you maybe waiting a long time if you are expecting the above, Pricing depend on supply and demand , there are also many examples of 10 year old vessels selling for only 10 to 20% less than the price they were first purchased at. There is no way a L46 would be sell for 240K,unless it needed over 100k refurbishments,or there is another GFC again (probable the more likely option)

Re: Leopard 46, 2006

A new Leopard 46 is in the range of $650K, A 10 year boat is 2006-2007 boat. If you will check the current offerings for such boats most of them has starting point average of $360K which is around 44% off the price for a new boat and this is the starting point and frankly I follow the market for few months by now and continue to see the same boats none is being sold. You have even a 2009 Leopard 46, a 7 years old boat for $339K and it is still not selling. These are facts. So one may assume that boat owners expectations may be too high or otherwise there is no interest in such boats, which basically is the same.
I agree that pricing should be based on supply and demand, the facts are that there is a lot of supply coming out of The Moorings and I do not see much demand since I keep seeing the same boats waiting on the listings, they are definitely not selling even for a 44% discount on a new boat price.

Maybe because they aren't accepting low ball offers of less than $300K. I used to dream like you too. Also, there's no way to compare a Moorings boat coming out of charter to this boat from what I see. Not that adding water maker, solar, dinghy, dinghy motor, ebirb, washer/dryer, etc., etc, etc, to the list (which this boat has) increases the value. Go price some of those items. You're comparing apples and grapes.

Re: Leopard 46, 2006

You actually are making my point, this is not a supply and demand but rather sellers have price expectations that the market mostly do not agree to pay and they are left with the boats.

One reason may be that the sellers do not really wish to sell, they put high price and either continue to use the boat or sell just if they get the asking price.
The other reason may be the almost control of The Moorings over the market supply of Leopard boats and the advise they give to the sellers while they actually have double interests of also serving their future members of new boats buyers and showing them a good return on selling the used boats.

In any case the real losers are the owners since every year they didn't sell a used boat the owner lose around $15K-$20K on the boat value and additional $15K for docking and maintenance expenses. Not to mention potential market shift for example from 48' to 46' and now to 44' size boats which will make it even harder to sell.
As a buyer I am not limited to a specific boat or even model so I have a much higher chance to get what I am looking for.

Specifically to this boat, it is a charter not Owner model, I have no idea about its ownership history but it is clear that the current owner takes a good care of the boat and I salute him for that, however the additions you quoted may add $10K to $15K of value to the boat if I buy them new.
And the last point is that when I make the move to buy a used boat I will go to the BVI where I can negotiate and select one of 20-30 available boats on the market there instead of somewhere in Florida where I have 1 or 2 Leopards on the market at a specific location.

Re: Leopard 46, 2006

A local broker here seemtos think a voyage 50 is worth nearly today what is was new! When now getting on 6-7 years old.

IMO the leopard 46 is best condo cat in terms or appearance and generally good performance.

Good luck!

Very entertaining! Havent priced a good warer maker lately?
Im afraid your 15k wont go far. Like i said, i used to dream like you. Keep us posted when you find that well equipped 45' boat for ~240k or less that doesn't need 100k,to bring it up to snuff.
