This is a near-new, mechanical wind-steering system that needs no electricity. It was used on a
Hallberg Rassy 352 but can be installed on ANY
boat. "Hydie" was an invaluable crewmember during our voyages along the entire
West Coast from Haida Gwaii to the
Baja and back, as well as coastal
offshore Vancouver Island. The
Hydrovane requires no
maintenance, is simple to install on any
boat, is simple to use, has no pesky connecting-lines to the
helm thus reducing
cockpit tripping/snagging hazards, and can be used as an
emergency steering system in case of primary rudder/steering failure. We found it works well in a variety of
wind conditions from 2kts relative on up. This unit comes complete with two H-brackets, vane, and
steering assembly. $3500
