Try at botenbank dot nl.
If in the US, browse Canadian supplies.

Re: Good small secondhand steel yacht wanted,
I know this guy, old timer Norwegian chap, he's got a 30'er sitting under tarps in his backyard. Dutch design. I took a peak at the hull from the outside, seemed ok at first glance. Heat exchanger in the keel. Has a small diesel, BMW?
Wood mast and spars are off the boat. My guess is they are shot, but only a guess.
It's lying in Delaware.
I'm pretty sure the price is right.

That Tahitiana looks nice. We own one and love her. The Yanmar 1GM10 is a bit small though. We have a 2GM20 and it suits her well.

The boat belongs to a friend who bought her from the advertisement I posted.
I also thought the engine was a bit small but have been on her, I can confirm she chugs along at 5 knots no problem

Go to Greece: lots of them abandoned on marinas and ports. This summer I saw at least 4 or 5, sunk or half sunk and many needing work a bit on cheep ports and cheep marinas.

Re: Good small secondhand steel yacht wanted,
A few questions:
- How big is "small"? AKA what's your size range
- What part(s) of the world would you entertain buying the boat in?
- How much maintenance are you up for doing?
- What level of fit out are you looking for?
- What kind of sailing does she need to be up for doing?

not bigger than 34 feet
im from south africa so i could buy in any country,
i want to circumnavigate
she does not have to be to fancy as a matter of fact the more simple the better
as long as the steel is in good condition, the rest i can sort out,
basically looking for rugged simple steel classic sailing boat with the basics to go cruising with where the purchase price is right for my pocket thanks for your reply

Re: Good small secondhand steel yacht wanted,
Hi, & you're more than welcome for the reply. I'll keep my eyes open for you, although honestly, the boat you've found sounds promising.
And as a brief answer to your skepticism about bilge keelers, they're prevalent or to be found in many, many parts of the world. And there's no lack of them to have circumnavigated either.
I'm curious to know why you set your length limit where you did, especially as, since you've circumnavigated, you're not lacking in experience when it comes to handling a boat. Obviously price goes up geometrically with size, but I was wondering if there was any more to it than that?
Thanks
PS: I gather that you're more than familiar with the various sites which help one find boats, globally searching if necessary?

Re: Good small secondhand steel yacht wanted,
Hi Windjami,
There is a very nice 28 footer Nebe on Ebay. Search for "Nebe Cape".
Says she has a new (20 hours) 15 hp Volvo, Listing says the boat is set up for circumnavigation.

Re: Good small secondhand steel yacht wanted,
Hi Windjami.
I would recommend looking for a yacht made from Corten Steel, it is the same steel they make shipping containers out of. It is very strong and almost does not rust, particularly with modern paints. In New Zealand all the fisherman love steel for its strength, versatility, and durability. A small steel yacht is almost built proof.

Re: Good small secondhand steel yacht wanted,
While there are a few Tahitianas for sale many are in distant places and purchase may involve considerable repair/purchase/upgrading.
Steel is not particularly well suited to small boats. While the weight can be kept down by using thin sections corrosion then becomes a problem, paricularly for older boats.
Have you considered building from plans? Particularly if there is an experienced welder who can build the hull & deck for you and there is abrasive blaster nearby it may not be dramatically more expensive than buying a boat somewhere remote and 'fixing" it.
However my opinion is that that size boat is much more suited to plywood, one off fibreglass or even strip plank, particularly if one has a suitable backyard.
The use of encapsulated lead shot for ballast is, in my opinion, also desirable.

I like steel boats and always have an eye open to them.
It would help us help you if you gave some range of LOA and budget (in US$).
For example, I recently saw an interesting boat that seemed very nicely made, and at what appears to be a good value price. But it may be too large for you or too much money.
