33' to 40' Sailboat - West Coast

Looking for a 35' to 40ish' sailboat in good sailing condition for 50k or less.

Boat would be used for bluewater cruising/liveaboard.

Would love a catamaran, but for that price I would assume a fixer upper.

Thanks for any leads!

Might be the best you can do. More than you want to spend but might be able to get it for your budget.

Thanks for the lead! She's a pretty boat, but I doubt I could give her the attention she would require. Looking to stick with glass or alum.

Re: 35' to 45' Sailboat - West Coast

As long as I am bumping, might as well add cutter, wind vane and water maker to the wish list.

Re: 33' to 40' Sailboat - West Coast

We have a Ted Hood design (was going to be the Little Harbor 40, but couldn't build grp in Marblehead so was built at the Gulfstar facility in Fla.) Gulfstar Custom 40 on the hard in Ventura, Ca. Seriously for sale with a new LeFiel mast and boom, updated Cal 40 rudder, rebuilt wheel steering, new suit of Ullmer sails, and more. Look up this boat and contact me @ jonreiter@wildblue.net or call me at the ranch on my cell. 805.570.4804. WAY under 50k, but the cosmetics will run 7-10k at Baha Naval in Ensenada, Mexico. Glorious is a beauty and an offshore seaboat with a draft of 3'11"-11'3" and will sail to windward like a witch. Monitor windvane, Perkins diesel, Lewmar self-tailers and a beautiful teak interior.

Bump - Open to any sail plan and up to 45'.

Particularly in Oregon/Washington, as it would only be a short drive to come take a look.

Try contacting Zeehag here. I believe she has a very nice 35' Erickson in San Diego.

Re: 33' to 40' Sailboat - West Coast

I'd suggest checking the ads for SoCal & Mexico, if you want to get much for your money. It'll take you a week in each area(minimum) to check out various boats, but if you save substantially, it may be worth it for you. It was for us. You can have the paperwork done by a rep in Oregon to save on the taxes.

Catamarans requiring a permanent berth are not frequent along coastal central California (not counting America's Cup hopefuls). There may be a good reason for this. It seems that Cats are much more common in SE USA and some other parts of the world. This forum is very pro-catamaran (look at the title picture), so I'm sure you'll get positive catamaran support.
