I noticed the posting on Propspeed.

I have used this for 2 years now and have had excellent results. Very small amounts of growth on the hub only. I think a good run under motor sheds it all from the parts exposed to water flow.

Definitely worth the cost.

As most of you Mahe’s know in the USA with the 110 volt system, when you plug in a standard 1500 watt heater it does nothing and you have to go reset the breaker. Jef from ("Miss Poes") in the Netherlands & I have a tested solution for you. Here is the problem in detail.

Most portable electric heaters or hair dryers use 1500 watts / 110 volts = 13.6 amps needed, but FP put a 6 Amp breaker in the Saloon / Port Cabin and another 6 Amp breaker in the Galley / Stb Cabin. These Hagar MFN706 breakers at 6 Amps are under rated, so a 16 amp breaker is need to support these outlets.

My Mahe 110 Volt wiring is a better gauge than my house wiring, therefore should be able to handle the increased Amps. I put the Hagar MFN716 Circuit Breakers in this weekend and they installed in only 10 minutes. Plugged in the Mahe to shore power and plugged in a 1500 watt heater on high and all works perfectly.

It is important that you understand that by changing your breakers from the factory MFN706 at 6 Amps, to the new MFN716 which are 16 amp breakers that the situation is not fool-proof. If you were to use close to 16 amp for e.g. a hair dryer and are also charging the batteries and/or water heating, the 20 A main breaker may trip.

110 volt Mahes have:
Main circuit breaker ADC720F (Differential) of 20 Amps. This unit
disconnects all groups when there is a residual current above 30 mA,
being 0.03A. Plus it disconnects when the total current exceeds 20 Amps. Most US Marina’s are 30 amps
Water Heater breaker MFN710 at 10 Amps, 800 watts / 110 Volts = 7 amps needed
Battery Charger breaker MFN710 at 10 Amps, 600-700 watts/110 volts = 6 Amps needed
Saloon / Port Cabin breaker MFN706 at 6 Amps, Changed to MFN716
Galley / Stb Cabin breaker MFN706 at 6 Amps, Changed to MFN716

230 volt Mahes have:
Main circuit breaker (Differential) of 16 Amps
Water Heater breaker MFN706 at 6 Amps
Battery Charger breaker MFN706 at 6 Amps
Saloon / Port Cabin breaker MFN706 at 6 Amps
Galley / Stb Cabin breaker MFN706 at 6 Amps

Strangely these can handle 2000 W / 230 V = 8.7 A. (water cooker in the galley).

If you live in the US and would like to upgrade your Hagar breakers from MFN706 at 6 Amps to MFN716 at 16Amps Then send me a Private e-mail and I will make a list and make a blanket order to Jef.

When I get the breakers in the US, I will then send them to each of you that ordered them. Ordering and mail time will take 4-6 weeks.

Actual Cost euro 46.86 breakers + euro 10.45 shipping = euro 57.31 or around $78 US

Hello Edmund,
Congrats on your Mahe, we just took possession of our FP Mahe Hull 111 (Vaya con Dios) in Mooloolaba on January 15th and love it. We had a binimi made to go over helm station, looks quite nice like it belongs there.

I want to stress that careful examination of wire size is performed. Don't use wire that is smaller than ABYC specs, we don't want any boats to burn.

Congratulations to you also! The sun is shining in Norway, and I wish it was me sailing just now.
Do you have a picture of your bimini-solution? It would be much appreciated.
If your hull #111 was delivered in Australia in january, my hull #108 must be produced even earlier than I thought.

Edmund if you go back to thread # 13 you will see our Bimini.It is a good compromise,I can unzip over the Helm or be seated and have a cover to be protected from Sun and rain. It covers the whole cockpit area.

I guess you had this made locally? Or did you make it yourself? And does it still work OK? We are thinking of a similar version, but with sidewalls also, and some kind of front window and/or closing possibility.
We do need a well curved roof to ensure the water coming well off, without "ponding".
Is there any chance of getting a copy of any sketch, drawing or description of your Bimini, if anything like that was made?

Another issue, regarding this thread "FP Mahe 36": As newcomer here I find it a bit hard to find and navigate through all the 1200+ pieces of excellent information given here. I've tried changing the Display Modes, but it didn't help me much. Is there any good ways of getting a better overview, or is the tread just getting a bit big?
I'm afraid I'm not so familiar with this "all-in-one-thread" way of communicating, but more one tread=one topic.

This was made by a local shop,I don't have any drawings of it. You could easily have sides and some kind of protection in the front.I have no problems with water standing on top because it is very tight. It would be ideal spot for solar panels. This is a very expensive bimini,but it does the job.Regarding the thread I know you have to go through the whole thing to find stuff that will interest you,I don't think there is another way.

Here is a few photos of our binimi.
The main boom goes right over the top.
My husband who is 6 ft 2 can sit comfortable. It is permanent but can be removed.
So far we are really happy with it. Have seen rounder ones and square ones, this one is curved. I have more detail photos if anyone needs.

Very good! It looks to be not to complicated, and thereby perhaps also not so expensive. This may be my solution also.
A few detail photos would be very useful, especially on how the new top is connected to the original Bimini. Could you send me by email?

I love you Helm Bimini. It really does look like its made for the Mahe by the factory. Any pictures of just the frame?
Thanks for sending me all the other pictures. I really think this is the way I would like to go since I already have the cockpit Bimini and that is working perfectly. This Helm Bimini would be a great addition.

I couldn't take the very top off. While it has zippers, the ends are tucked in with no zipper gadget.
I took the vertical piece out. It's attached by a zipper all the way around on the top, and half on the bottom then the other bottom is attached through a slide. Hope this helps.

Has anyone come up with a good professional solution to the cracks along the steps down into each hull. They are a great catchment for dirt. Wondering if anyone has found any moulding or material that would work. Right now I just have a rolled up teatowel.

This beautiful thread is getting big (+1200 posts), and is hard to search through. I asked the Moderators if it is possible to have it divided by topic in several threads. The answer was that as a start we should close this one, and start the new threads we would like to have. As I understand them, they might then look into the possibility of sorting out this thread later.

Do we want to do this, or are we so familiar with this good ol' one that we'd rather let it continue as it goes?
