Lucia 40: max dinghi size

Ahoy,
Can somebody please tell me the maximum dinghy size in meters for the lucia 40. If possible also the max weight for the davids ?

In my experience a dinghy is as personal as a car. It's not just about what will fit in your garage... but about what you want from it. If you get inflatable you can go much bigger.... if you store it on the foredeck you can go bigger... do you want hard bottom for speed? Do you want a collapsible hard bottom dinghy?

Measure the distance between the davits and that will give you a starting point. And any davits installed will presumably be strong enough to hold any dinghy small enough to fit them.... assuming the installation was professional!

I want a inflatable hardbottom as big as possible to fit at davids between the hulls. I get the boat in February but what to order the dinghy now. Could ask the warft but I thought I get a better info faster from other owners. Do you own a fplucia40 ?

I do not own a Lucia.

Here is what I know:
A 310 will haul 4 adults and a dog no problem.
Inflatable RIBS get heavy fast as length increases. Heavy has issues.

On a catamaran weight on the transom causes the stern to drag slowing the boat down. Going lighter with the dinghy will help the boat sail and motor better.

Heavier is harder to raise using the block and tackle arrangement at the davits. The 4:1 blocks on my boat are manageable with about 75 kg of dinghy and motor on them. I can manage it, but it is a struggle for my wife. Several friends of ours retired large dinghies for this very reason.

The larger the dinghy the more frequently the motor is going to bash into the hull, especially when trying to hook on the bridle in a chop, but also when sailing along in a running sea.

The beam on my cat is 6.5 meters, and a 310 is about the biggest RIB that would fit the space. My preference is for a 290 for the reasons above.

A 310 fits well.. You may be able to squeeze something else, but there would be compromises(ie kicking the dinghy out with a foot while you raise it)

3.1 m Aluminum bottom Rib is lighter than a glass one and can usually belt along pretty well with a 15HP. If you can get a 2 stroke outboard it will be lighter again and might suffice with a 9.9

The max weight rating is 100Kg per davit. The issue is the weight of the engine when lifting. It is easy to use the gennaker winch (port side) to lift the engine side if you have the gennaker option. 15Hp 4 stroke is too heavy to lift manually.

you seems to have a "live CAD" file of the Lucia...
I am on SolidWorks, so if this is the caseor ay format, would love to share.

For the dinghy, I used an option picture and scale it to 11.37m for the overall lenght, and this is the "apparent" size of the dinghy.

Is this a reliable dimension ?

An other point is ... I thought that the davit poles where not symetric in order to have the one with the motor farter from the centrer-line to bear less load and have a better share of the weight for each davit pole.
On this picture it seems they are symetric.

How is it on your Lucia ... HO ! do you received it ?

Have a lagoon 380, essentially same dimensions as lucia, though hull width clearly different. But same total beam. Got a 3.1. Still playing with mounting points to center it over davits, but this is about as large as I can go and have it fit well. Mine extends a bit over 1 hull, by playing with mounts in the dink, I can move it over a bit, but still need to push on it to drop it. Have a 4hp motor, does ok, but getting a 6. I want lowest weight possible to be able to hoist and lower myself. 4hp and 6hp motors weigh the same, they actually are the same engine. Going past 6 adds another 25lbs+.
