In salon DC bus bar

I am having trouble inserting new wires into the bus bar to add power for a few new appliances. Seems very simple but I cannot get the 'gate' to open to allow insertion of new wire. What's the trick to this?

Pictures of the type of bus bar connectors you have would be useful.

European boats, in particular, frequently use a spring-loaded terminal. Looking down from the top you may see a small indentation, which accepts the tip of a small screwdriver. Push down, and that releases the clamp and allows the wire to be pushed in.

There are other types that are similar (use caution, the exact style shown in the image allows metal-metal contact which means your screwdriver could end up with voltage, other styles can isolate the two and still work the same way).

There are other styles that have a little plastic lever (usually orange or yellow) that opens the terminal for insertion.

Thanks. See attached pictures of the bus bar in my boat. It looks different than the one you posted.

Same idea. Looking at the front you will see two small rectangular openings with a bit of metal visible. Press forward against this metal bit and the jaws for the corresponding top/bottom connection will open.

The little grey connectors you see inserted in the front are jumpers which are used to interconnect the blocks to form a distribution series of the same circuit. For example, separate branches of the same circuit for each cabin light.
