Windows 10

I use OPEN CPN on a MAC and Windows 7 machine successfully.
Bought a new Dell, Windows 10
Everytime I try to install the program I get an error message:
"" Error opening file for writing C:\Program Files(X86)\OpenCPN\Share\locale\de\LC_MESSAGES\ope ncpn-dashboard_pi.mo""
If someone knows what I am not doing right I would greatly appreciate...
Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Re: Windows 10

What version of OpenCPN? I have run OpenCPN on Windows 10 for 4 months (I had access to beta) and never had an issue!

Did you new laptop come with a crappy preinstalled virus scanner? This could be causing the problem!

Re: Windows 10

I am trying to load the very latest Stable version directly from the OpenCpn site 4.0.0
I can't find what looks like an antivirus program... I will keep looking. Maybe I should just bring the computer back and forget about velocity!

Re: Windows 10

Can you give more details.. Does the error happen during the install, or after its installed and you try to open it?

Can you post a screenshot?

I'm pretty sure its some third party app as OpenCPN has no issue on Windows 10. There are quite a few people running it!

Re: Windows 10

We have 4.0 installed in two machines (64bit and 32bit) without problems.

I would suggest to uninstall and to give a second try. In case of a fail please publish the install log.

Thumbs up Re: Windows 10

I finally reinstalled the whole program in a designated folder. And it works. Was also able to install plugins (apart from Squidio- I guess it is not yet for windows 10). Will then try to get the drivers for our BU-353 if it is for windows 10. And then we will be ready to go back to cruising in the Carribeans!
I am not sure why it screwed up at the beginning.
But thank you for you advice. It is always good to know resourrces like you guys are available for us neophytes in IT.

Re: Windows 10

Here is a link to the driver and instructions on how to install it!
http://www.usglobalsat.com/downloads...stallation.zip

But.. If I could make a recomendation.. I run an Holux M-215 on my boat. Its a more modern puck that supports both GPS and GLONASS satelite networks. I locks on faster and is more accurate (on paper). If you do decide to buy one, you could keep your old one as a backup!

Re: Windows 10

Dear OpenCPN gurus - I just upgraded from Win8.1 to Win10. Now I find that OpenCPN v4.0 doesn't display my KAP files (of which I have several thousand). If I turn off OpenGL acceleration, OpenCPN then displays the KAPs, but scrolling around takes forever.

Did MSFT rip OpenGL out of Win10? Or did they change it so OpenCPN can't access it? Am I stuck with either no KAPs or slow KAPs?

Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Re: Windows 10

My Dell W10 laptop does the same on beta 4.1.925. Kaps are blank using OpenGL, mainly white but sometimes black. I thought it was the beta, but maybe it's a more general W10 problem.

Re: Windows 10

I have the same setup on one my computers Win 10, OpenCPN 4.0.0 and turning on accelerated graphics does not affect displaying of the charts. Of course it is an I7.

Re: Windows 10

Win10, KAP files and OCPN 4.1.195
I've one Compaq PC upgraded from W7 to W10 and there are all charts fine. Today I upgraded another W7, Lenovo incl Intel 965 Chipset, and vector charts are fine but KAPs/BSBs in OpenGl mode are not viewed at all. This would be a graphic driver problem. There are no OpenGl options available for the graphical card as it was in W7. Let's see if I can investigate further. Anyone got hints?

Go download the proper driver from the manufactures website (Lenovo). If they don't have drivers specifically for Windows 10, then download the 8/8.1 drivers as they are compatable.

Re: Windows 10

Thank you to all for your help with my windows 10 issues! As for the GPS Puck, I was told by the manufacturer that I need to buy the BU-353-S4 and install the Windows 10 driver from their site to run it. The BU-353 is no longer compatible with my OS.
Thanks!
