Program starting up then shutting down

Having problem OpenCPN willstartup then opens a message box a couple of messages dhow up and the the opencpn shuts down. Message box opens and closes to fast to read any messages. If I open it in protected mode (no plugins) it will stay up. I have attached the log. Running Windows 10. OpenCPN 5.8.4.0

Dev's will probably ask you to try turning off OpenGL and try again. If you can't access the options from inside OpenCPN (because it crashes), you'll need to find the config file and edit it with a text editor. I'm in Linux, so I can't verify the location and setting, at the moment.


Did it run without charts? Did it only start crashing when you downloaded some ENC charts? I've had, and seen others, report problems with crashing while using ENC charts with the latest version.

Rebooted to Windows. Here is where the configuration file is on my Windows 10.
X:\ProgramData\opencpn\opencpn.ini
"X" is your drive letter. Default would be "C". But mine is installed on a drive "D".


Open with notepad or other text editor.



Each section has a title surrounded by brackets. You want to look for the Settings section, or "[Settings]", without the quotes.



Inside that section you will want to look for the line
"DisableOpenGL=0" (without the quotes)


Change the "0" to "1" (a one, not ell).


If that line doesn't exist, then add it as:
"DisableOpenGL=1" (without the quotes)

Tried Changing OpenGL=0 and DisableOpenGL=1 no go.
Now it will not open in safe mode either I believe this started after rebuilding the ENC database. Any ideas?

If it's chart related, move all files/folder out of your Charts folder and put someplace else temporarily. Or you can just delete all charts files in Charts folder if they can be downloaded again.

Not necessary,
Just start using Chart Groups properly. It requires reading the manual and some small reorganization, and understanding.

My comment was unclear. I meant for OP to do this, temporarily, as a troubleshooting step to see if it was charts related or something else causing the crash. Agree that chart groups are nice. I have several set up.

Quick update on problem through testing I have determined that it is when the GlobalSat BU-353S4 is plugged in that it crashes. If I leave it unplugged it stays up. as soon as I plug it in program crashes. I have updated the driver and used 2 different GPS pucks. Any help would be appreciated before I go back to 5.8.2 to see if that helps. Again log is attached. I also of course have the crash logs.

if this was me, I would turn off plugins to see if it's a problem with OpenCPN main program or a plugin.

Are you using current drivers?? I think I'd reinstall them.
