Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Alpha Test #2

Checked the work of the latest build on a laptop with a touch screen
Win10 x64, Graphics: Radeon, Diagonal: 13.3`, Resolution: 1920x1080, Scale: 150% (recommended)

Included: Scaled Graphics Interface, Touchscreen Interface. All Scale Factor defaults to 0.
Screenshots were taken at 100% screen scale It is almost impossible to work in Windows at this scale, the interface is very small.

The size of the depth markers and the texts are good to read, but the ENC point objects are very small, especially the rocks. In places with a large array of depth marks, the inscriptions overlap the map objects. Not enough filtering of depth marks.

Screen scale 150% (recommended)
Depth marks and texts have become small, the size can be adjusted Chart Object scale Factor +1/2 to get a more or less clean image. In this mode, the font of the depth marks has a large letter spacing, which makes it difficult to read the depths as a whole.

Chart Object Scale Factor +2

Noticed problems
1. An artifact is observed in the display of a polygonal object VEGATN
2. Not applied font and size change for Menu
3. Navigation Mode Course Up. After CPN reboot, North UP mode is displayed, Course Up is enabled in the options.
4. With the Smoth Panning / Zooming option enabled. When trying to perform a zoom gesture on the touch screen. The zoom does not work correctly and after that the Zoom buttons break. With the Zoom to Cursor option enabled, I could not zoom in on the desired part of the screen with the zoom gesture. The zoom works in the center of the screen.
5. The Object Query window opens to the entire screen area

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Alpha Test #2

Hi Dave,

just uploaded the latest version of 2.7.1. Works well on my RPI4 with Bullseye.

Also tried it on my Linux Mint AMD64 running on kernel 6.??.

O likes to start, but then quick disappeared from the screen.

This is the latest part of the log file when the systems stops working.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Alpha Test #2

Further test with Ubuntu Kinetic on the RPI4. Works well.

After starting Linux Mint AMD64 with a 5.?? kernel. The problem stays the same.

Therefore it is not a kernel version 6.? issue.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Alpha Test #2

To make a fresh start on the Ubuntu Kinetic on the RPI 4. I removed the former opencpn.config. To made a new start. And now the piano bars are not on the right location.

See image.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Alpha Test #2

Hi Leamas,

as far as I know there 5.7.1 flatpak version. It is the PPA (deb) version. A pity that I have removed the former config file.

The piano bar cannot be moved. Tried this also with the Ecdis Inland setting on.

No movement. After switching back from the Inland Ecdis. The left piano bar jumps to the left of the screen, outside the O screen.

Regards,

Bram

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Alpha Test #2

So, you are using .deb packages on Ubuntu Kinetic. The first thing to note here is that OpenCPN only supports LTS releases. Basically anything could happen when tried on things like Kinetic; obviously, this is an example.

The menus might be related to https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/issues/2808 if you are on Wayland. There is a work around described in the bug.

There is a Flatpak version available, we just havn't announced it. It is also very little tested. It can be installed like:

Code:
$ flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub-beta https://flathub.org/beta-repo/flathub-beta.flatpakrepo

$ flatpak install flathub-beta org.opencpn.OpenCPN
This installation can co-exist with the regular Flatpak version installed from flathub. You might want to use flatpak run org.opencpn.OpenCPN//beta and flatpak run org.opencpn.OpenCPN//stable to be sure which version you start.

A possibly educated guess here is that OpenCPN has deemed a plugin as possible to load on Mint. However, Mint is not ABI compatible with Ubuntu, so when the plugin is loaded the thing crashes.

We don't really support anything with the .deb packages besides Debian and Ubuntu LTS. Mint is a known, problematic example. Flatpak works (should work?), though.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Alpha Test #2

Hi Leamas,

I always try the latest versions of the software development.

Nice to hear from you that there is also a flatpak version available of the 5.7.1.

I'am also trying the Fedora version for the RPI with kernel 6.1. However ppa installation does not work.

The present flatpak version works on Fedora. But I will certainly try the 5.7.1 flatpak on the Fedora and let you know the outcome.

We are invited tot test the developments and that is what I always do.

Regards,

Bram

And many thanks for doing that! Especially happy you are working with Fedora, the OS I prefer and uses from day to day for my regular work.

EDIT: Fedora does not use .deb packages, they use rpm. This means that there is absolute no chance that a PPA installation will work.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Alpha Test #2

For your information:

Tested the latest 5.7.1 version with an opencpn.config of a working former version. But that does not solve the problem. This former 5.7.1 version however works still without any problems.

Leanas,

the Fedora Rahwide (kernel 6.1) for the RPI4 works well. Not yet so fast. But the interface is nice. It is still in the development fase. The flatpak OpenCPN was easy to install from Flathub. But now of course I like to try the flatpak OpenCPN 5.7.1. The only option in Fedora is for me the flatpak version.

Must items here on my systems runs in the flatpak version. A great development.

I let you know the outcome a soon as i have tested the latest Flatpak OpenCPN version.

Regards,

Bram

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Alpha Test #2

Hi Leamas,

tested the latest Flatpak OpenCPN on my Fedora Rawhide RPI4 version.

it works with all the plugins available.. However it is not version 5.7.1 but 5.6.2.2+. The present version was 5.6,2-0+.

No way to test the direct NMEA2K input and the transfer of routes between systems.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Alpha Test #2

Just appeared the Flatpak 5.7.1 OpenCPN version. Installed this version on my Linux Mint Vaessa for AMD64 and my RPI4 systems. Also on the new Fedora Rawhide for the RPI.

This flatpak version works well but some plugins llke the O-charts plugin is missing.

Tomorrow I test the direct input of NMEA2000 and the routetransfer to another system.

Thanks,

Bram

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Alpha Test #2

Tested today the latest flatpak versio 5.7.1. Transfer of the route works.

But no way to get the can0 working. Don't see any setup screen. Tried with the NGT-1 and also with the Canable board setting Can0 with 250000 rate. Candump schows the gps data passing.

Via the Signalk server it works.

I assume you have updated the Canable board with the Candlelight firmware so it performs as a native CAN adapter (CAN0) rather than a Serial Line CAN adapter (SLCAN0).

And that a command similar to CANDUMP CAN0 displays the NMEA 2000 traffic.

What is the output of the following comand
Code:
flatpak info --show-permissions org.opencpn.OpenCPN
