Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

rontom...

Have you got a camera? I'm serious...

Or maybe a thumbdrive, to copy some screenshots from the nav computer over to the computer that you are talking on now?

Otherwise, I'm just guessing....

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Dave

I copied and Pasted these logs from my nav Computer, I do not know if i got all you need. I do not know how to transfer screen shots of my opencpn to Thumb drive, I know there is a way because i see others doing it. I will try taking a Photo of it and send, But like before everything shows good, Countdown, warmup, standby, transmit. But not a bit of Radar splash anywhere.
I have tried all different scenarios with the controls, but nothing shows.
If you need more let me know
Hope this gives you an Idea.

Thanks
Jim

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Dave

I hope these work ok.
Bear with me, i am not very fast at this.

No radar splash at all

I installed a Furuno a couple of years ago, and it had Foam inside the dome for protecting the Magnetron, But there was warning
stickers , and you had to make the connections inside the Dome anyway.

I could find nothing in the Garmin Manual or Box of anykind. as to foam inside the Dome.

Could that be possible. I would suspect that there would be info to that effect posted somewhere

Set the FTC Fast Time Constant to Off and the RainClutter to 0.

Thanks a lot, I had thought i had been through all the controls and different scenerios with them,
Cant wait to get it back on the Boat, and adjust it a little more, i think it is in the Ball park anyway for now.
it is hard to do it when not underway.

Thanks again.

Chuck...

Should we adjust the GRadarPI defaults for STC, Rain Clutter, etc. ?

The initial values are read from the dome. GRadar does not automatically set any radar values except for range.

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Hi guys. I have a question about the radar plugin. On my current radar I have a watchmen mode. I can set it so every 10 minutes or so it powers up the dome, takes a peek, and sounds an alarm if anything is near. It saves me a lot of power on long passages. Can the pluging do the same? I'm thinking of upgrading to a garmen dome before crossing the Pacific again.

Cheers

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Dave

I finally got out to Try my Gradar on the Water, I did not have a thumb drive on board, but next time i go out i will capture some images and post on the forum for reference for somebody else that is going to hookup the Gradar, i was really impressed with how it performed..

one issue i discovered is that and slow speeds 2 knots or less the little boat on the screen wants to sashay back and forth like hunting for the signal.
I use a small hockey puck antenna, and has worked fine, but with the Gradar on and going slow 2 knots or less it causes the Targets ahead to sashay in conjunction with the little boat on the screen.
When charging at 8 knots everything works fine and Targets are stationary.

Would you recommend a heading sensor for low speeds.
or a different GPS Antenna or is there an adustment in Open Cpn for this?

Thanks Dave
keep up the good work.

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

I am going to wire in my Garmin HD 18 radar Unit in the next few days just to give it a try, this is a great concept.

I have several people around me that would like to do the same thing with the Navico 4g units. I see that for a while there was a plugin but it had limited functionality. Is there one somewhere that I can download and interface to a friends existing 4g unit?

Thanks,
Guy
