Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

AISEAG...

Thank you, I know Shoreline.
And as you say : no Android there (with its specificities)

I try OpenCPN (in french) since version 2.5 until 3.2
- on my Mac where the last usable version is the 3.2.2
- on my NetBook under Seven
- on that NetBook with the Linux installation "Navigatrix" that works much better than with Windows who looses the GPS :-(

I use also the appli 'Boating' from Navionics on my iphone 3GS ;-)
(whom I think it's quite well made)

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

Hi, Todays pull built on W-XP, VS2010, gave the following error:
(But.......in VS2013 on W10 the same code builds fine???)
Code:
..\..\..\plugins\grib_pi\src\GribSettingsDialog.cpp(609): error C2668: 'exp' : ambiguous call to overloaded function
c:\Program\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\include\math.h(563): could be 'long double exp(long double)'
          c:\Program\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\include\math.h(515): or 'float exp(float)'
          c:\Program\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\include\math.h(117): or 'double exp(double)'
while trying to match the argument list '(int)'
We may have seen this error before? Is old code reused?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

I take that back! They do (icons) work when I sort of tickle the list.

but just on occasion, part of the list gets stuck on the screen when the dialogue is dismissed. If I rotate the phone (refreshing the screen)it goes away.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

ghega, without using advanced mode toolbar,
push the Samsung "menu" key (lower left on my samsung) and choose OpenCPN Settings. You will see this

choose Chart Sources and Options .You should seethis

choose ADD

Now a tricky part. Choose the folder with ".. " (at the top) until you get to somewhere you recognize; "storage" or "sdcard" or "sd0" or "extSdCard" or something similar...Then start opening folders below the ".. folder"
When you get close, it will look like this

Now, (I ) would choose "CM93_LocalONLY." folder...yours will be different name but you get the idea?
You will see something like this

Ok, you already know all this but here's where I can make a mistake:

DO NOTHING MORE. Once you see that the path to your charts' folder is correct, You are done. You don't need to add charts one-by-one. Just the folder. In the screengrabs my path will be storage/extSdCard/CM93_LocalONLY
Choose OK.
The screen will go back to "Configure Installed Charts" as in 2nd screen grab above.
You already did that so, Use the Samsung "Back" button (lower right on my samsung) and back through the 3rd screen grab above. Now you are back at opencpn's Chart view and you should now see the your charts being loaded! a sliding bar as Oa updates the database.

I hope. I don't know why this thumbnail is under this post but I assume everything corrupts eventually.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

Build 4.1.818 still hangs every time when trying to plot the vessel's position if the GPS is reporting a speed on the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505. When panning towards the boat's position, the background chart redraw suddenly fails to complete and the application freezes. The mobile is not plotted either.
This seems independent of the charts used or OS version. Everything works fine if the position is static.

The display of the embossed depth units text is now mostly fixed, only clipping the last 's' in 'Meters'.

OceanSeaSpray...

re:
"background chart redraw suddenly fails to complete and the application freezes"

Does it freeze forever? How do you recover?
Any kind of screenshot to help us understand this a little better?

This is the only report of such behaviour we have received, so any more information or description is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

Yes, it freezes forever. Only way out is killing the process from the task manager (hold 'Home' key, get the applications loaded in memory and close opencpn).

Typically, you pan into the region that includes the GPS coordinates and - if there is any GPS speed - it locks up right there as soon as you release the 'pan', before drawing the newly exposed map area, so this screen region stays light blue and it is all over. As long as you keep the location of the vessel off the screen, the GPS speed and course info updates normally in the grey status bar at the bottom and you can keep panning all over the place.
The only thing still responsive afterwards is the 'Menu' soft key. It brings up its menu, but you can't do anything with it.

I should be able to get you one or more screenshots later today, I just need some GPS speed to make it crash. A tentative explanation is that it could occur when attempting to draw the motion vector, which doesn't exist at zero speed.

Eric

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

Eric...

Hmmm....

I rode around in my dinghy today, fiddling with my Moto XOOM the whole time. Zooming, panning, RNC, ENC, cm93, tracking, notracking, dropping W/Ps underway, etc. Really trying to break it.

Saw nothing like this effect. But I will try some more. I like dinghy rides to nowhere...

Screenshots might help.

Thanks
Dave

Errrrm. I just installed today, only get the message "unfortunately opencpn had stopped". I tried quite a few times.

Yeah, about that ^^^. Using a subtle blend of hacking and programming I reinstalled and it works now. *ahem*

Now I am going to selfie my Kardashian to the Interweb and maybe join anonymous.......

Dave...

Hmmm....

It is not that hard to make it happen, but you might need the right (wrong?) hardware or ROM!
So far I have replicated it on 3 distinct Samsung S4 GT-I9505 phones, one with Android 4.4.2, the others with 5.0.1 official firmware. It is 100% systematic so far.

Here is a couple of screenshots anyway.

I would need to get set up to build the Android package and then I could try a few things to narrow down exactly where it happens.

Best regards,

Eric

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

Tests in live on Z3 compact A 5.1.1

Three points to report
1) curious track display
I get this when zooming around the boat. W8.1 and AO have nearly the same behaviour.
with AO, only moving near the edge can create the problem, but generally it occurs when mixing zooming and moving.
You can see in the shots attached : xxtrack1 is the normal display, xxtrak2 is the curious display at a certain zoom level, and at another zoom level. On xxTrack3, the track has disappeared.

2) In track properties dialogue, no track points displayed. Moreover, what about "Split" and "extend" function which are very useful?
(see shot attached)

3) when opening option dialogue (in expert mode ) and closing it when a route is activated, the console disappears. I have to deactivate and activate route OR if I use the AO menu and select "OpenCPN settings" then close, the console is visible again, showing that something is missing when closing the expert option menu.

Dave,

Because there is little I wouldn't do for you after your dinghy ride to nowhere, I have dug up a tombstone for you about this crash.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

I am trying this release on Samsung galaxy tab s.
I can find no way of emulating the windows click & drag eg to move a waypoint in a route. long press brings up the windows right click menu, short press highlights the waypoint in yellow but does not allow drag. Is there a way of doing this.
I also crash the program with virtualy any attempt to do anything with the route other than view properties
