Opencpn closes itself

I love opencpn and as an avid live aboard I love the anchor alarm. However when I open opencpn it closes itself before it can completely load, this renders the program pretty much useless - I have never seen this happen before and am at a loss as to how to "fix it" - all other programs load up just fine.

Any ideas?
