OpenCPN and Mac OS Sonoma 14.1.1

Hi all,
Is anyone else having problems with OpenCPN (ver 5.8.4) after updating to Mac OS Sonoma (14.1.1)?
Mine is extremely slow now loading charts, freezing when zooming and panning? I did a NZ S63 cumulative chart update that took about 90 minutes?? Previously this was a couple of minutes..
Any ideas. I have not yet tried reinstalling OpenCPN but it may not be worth it if others are having issues?
Cheers
Brett

Re: OpenCPN and Mac OS Sonoma 14.1.1

Hi Brett,

my version 5.0.1 on an M1 crashes after the first window pops up.

Their website says supported version are 10-12, Sonoma is 14.

I've downloaded their latest version, which is 5.8.4 as you mentioned. It runs just fine, scanning the whole CM93 charts in less than 20 sec.

Also tested some plugins and they all installed without a hitch.

Still having the same issue. After the update to Sonoma (14.1.1) and installing the fortnightly cumulative S63 NZ chart updates, OpenCPN takes over 1 hour to install? Previous OS version (Monterey) the install was minutes. Seems to work okay after, just takes forever to do the simple update..

Re: OpenCPN and Mac OS Sonoma 14.1.1

Hi - longtime OpenCPN user but newbie to the forum. I also am on a Mac running Sonoma 14.1.1 and unable to get OpenCPN even to open.

When I try to launch, I get an error: "OpenCPN quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple."

I've tried restarting.

I've tried launching it directly from the Applications folder instead of the app tray.

I've tried downloading the newest version "OpenCPN_5.8.4-0+637.1637c28.pkg" to re-install. When I double click the package, I get "“OpenCPN_5.8.4-0+637.1637c28.pkg” cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware."

Any suggestions are welcome Andy

Yes, it's not uncommon for open source software to not have the proper signature from Apple and hence you need to force MacOS to run the binaries the first time around.

Hi Andy,
When reinstalling OpenCPN if you go to your system settings folder, Privacy and Security, you will see an option to allow installation from App Store and unidentified developers. I think it also shows OpenCPN when you see "cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"

Cheers
Brett

I guess we will have to wait for another OpenCPN update to iron out the bugs with the later Mac OS versions..

Re: OpenCPN and Mac OS Sonoma 14.1.1

Tried removing and reinstalling OpenCPN version 5.8.4 (Mac) and same problem running Sonoma OS. I have New Zealand S63 charts that take forever to update?? I have just removed all previous NZ S63 cumulative updates and reinstalling the Permit txt to enable the new week 24-03 base file (as requested) to be installed. So far the permit txt file is taking forever to install?? All this used to happen so fast with the previous version of Mac OS..?? Something is not right somewhere..
