Re: Open Cpn on iPad 11pro

I received information some time ago that the problem lies with Apple! Apple apparently does not approve the iPad, which is why CPN does not work on the iPad. If this information changes and approval is given, please let me know. Word would get around. So I remain with kind regards, skipperpia

Apple claims that open software under GPL is incompatible with the terms of the Apple Store, hence not admitted.

Is it possible to relicense a fork for iOS under MIT? I guess I'm not even sure MIT is compatible with the Apple App store.

I would gladly jailbreak my iPad to run OpenCPN.

Use qtVlm instead, it works for iOS and macOS.

Even the macOS version of OpenCPN lacks of support for Apple devices. It will give a warning during installation.

try out orca navigation, best used with orca core.
https://getorca.com/orca-core/

and also radar can be connected, raymarine quantum already works and B&G/Navico Halo radars are next.
Core contains also GPS and compass unit that broadcasting 10Hz ROT heading data needed for doppler and marpa radar to work.
All that for 550Euro incl charts worldwide for 1 year (yes they still lack some areas but its getting better and better, worth supporting).
Orca works also without core, yearly subsrciption is 139Euro and charts downloaded can be used unlimited time even you canceled subscription.

Not at all...
i have raymarine in parallel as well as isailor. All 3 systems can steer all incl.autopilot, iSailor just misses radar. Still have some config issues with isailor and autopilot but I eventually will get that sorted.
But i got a 10Hz ROT heading GPS and compass for 550Euro with orca core that i need for the doppler radar (raymarine or B&G cost 1000Euro) anyhow so i saved 450Euro and the rest was additional for free.
Orca was meant as backup but is actually so comfortable that the rest got backup.
And i have 3 chartproviders running in parallel:Orca, Navionics on Axiom and transeat on isailor.
And i also have all connected to a ethernet switch that all onenet/raynet and all NMEA0183 and NMEA2000 is via wifi broadcasted.
So if i need i can easliy add a Laptop with openCPN. ready is my openCPN that can also get radar, just an network cable from laptop to switch. I actually have Open CPN install on the bootcamp windows of my macbook...waiting till i find a sailor on anchor or marina having the time and patience to guide me through setting it up and how to operate it as thats as much fun as a dentist visit...

Can the Orca software use a satellite compass or an Airmar or Maretron heading sensor? I think not, i.e. they force you to buy their kit.

App works on any tablet without anything else.
Only device for autopilot control, NMEA network, radar connection etc. Is the orca core. The only thing that core doesn't do is broadcast NMEA data via wifi but all thats on NMEA works.
Orca has satellite compass and GPS build in but can use all thats on NMEA. Orca actually broadcast GPS and compass data incl. 10HZ ROT heading from core on N2K for other device on N2K to use.
Yes it can use any other heading sensor that works via NMEA, you just have to set in the devices menu which n2k device for heading you wanna use.
They have their own tablet but orca runs on all Android and Apple tablets as well as apple watch.
All completely open and no you don't need any other device, they don't sell more then core and their rugged tablet.
Autopilot worked out of box without any adaption.
Means open carton box, takeout core plug into NMEA and start the app and pair orca core to tablet, done. Autopilot worked. Never had such a painless install.

So you get full functionality without buying the “Core” ?

Because I already have all the sensors etc.
