Open CPN COMM port 3 issue

It worked all last summer, but tried to use Open CPN today and it wouldn't open. Computer stated Comm port 3 error, and asked me to close down other programs. I did. I checked windows set up and it is still listed as COM Port 3 prolific. I then re-installed Open CPN which didn't help. Any ideas?

vmleslie, yes, what Operating System. and ...
I check the log file first when funny things happen.
Are you familiar with where O makes a logfile? for version 2.5, on xp it's C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\opencpn\opencpn.log but you can check the helpfile at the top of the OpenCPN thread for locations in other operating systems.
Usually, the last lines in it are the ones to look at and copy/paste here if there's something written that's too cryptic for mortal minds...
