Navtex?

Is it possible to display NAVTEX messages in OpenCPN/OpenSkipper?


I have a receiver that outputs the recovered datastream from 518kHz, is it possible to bring that straight into the RaspiPi on a data pin and "do something" with it?

- OpenCPN has no prepared methods to present text messages. ( "OpenSkipper" is something completely unknown here.)
- In a computer world everything is possible. You can always use some programing tool like Python, and make a program to read your text strings from Navtex and transfer them to any desired "something". Whatever you want to do with the strings in RPi you can pass them via a serial connection via GPIO or USB and save in a file or whatever. But - I suppose there are already program tools for this available so if you don't like to play for your own joy it's no need for inventing the wheel again.

Based on a nasa navtex engine.

Very useful, usually you can copy the lat/long from the abandoned fishing nets or whatever and right click paste straight into an Opencpn waypoint dialog box.

I.am using an Nasa receiver on 518. And the linux software called Fldigi.


You need to do some adjustments and seting the software on Navtex. But it works very well on my Raspberry Pi and on my Linux Mint AMD64.


You can simply add the text to a file. Remove the messages etc. Just as other software applications.

Small addition to my above reply. The RPI has no sound input. that is what the SSB receiver gives as signal output.

For the RPI I have added a very small sound system Asus Xonar U3. Has a sound input and an usb output. Then it works also on the RPI and the Fldigi software.

Bought Asus for € 20,- second hand.

Thnaks, I'll have a look and see if it can take the output of my receiver .. I don't need the spectrum alaysis or analogue input as my 518kHz receiver already has a full filter and IF strip with a FSK demod / PLL on the output produce a digital output of the bitstream .. it just needs something to parse the digits into messages ...
