Lack of information on CM93 charts

When looking at CM93 charts I have a lot of detail missing compared with the same charts viewed in Maxsea for example EG The names of San Andres, Providencia islands (or most countries in fact) are not displayed no matter what level of zoom and no matter how I adjust the vector chart settings in toolbox. Any ideas??

It pays to read the friendly manual ....
Just check the first few lines on Vector Charts | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Re: Lack of information on CM93 charts

Have you selected "Show ENC text" on the Options/Toolbar (8th from the left)?

Re: Lack of information on CM93 charts

Thanks Both

You are right I should have RTFM. But, it does beg the question - why when everything to do with vector charts is cover covered (quite logically) under the heading Vector Charts in the Tool Box is this one adjustment excluded from those settings and singled out for inclusion on the Tool Bar? Especially when there are things (like Measure) which do logically belong on the Tool Bar but aren't there.

It's a good question, as I for one have NEVER turned the ENC text off. Who has?

Re: Lack of information on CM93 charts

I was recently trying to convert a friend to OpenCPN from Maxsea. They mentioned a similar issue. Looking at Musket Cove, Fiji (017 46 S, 177 11 E) Maxsea, with the same CM93 charts, showed far more depth detail when zoomed in. Even after sliding the "CM 93 Slider Detail" bar. I don't have a copy of Maxsea so was only able to see the problem on their boat.

NixonTankGirl....

I would like to know more about the user differences observed between MaxSea and O on the same cm93 chart.

Can you (or anyone) provide any screen shots of the questioned area with Maxsea? Comparisons, maybe?

Thanks
Dave

Regarding A+ icon:

I turn this off and on regularly. I dislike the screen clutter when it is on continuously underway, but tend to use it for planning and surfing.

Sorry, I cant help as I don't have Maxsea. I was very surprised when they told me and I went over to their boat to see as I presumed they had made an error. But they showed me the comparison and there did seem to be far more detail on the Maxsea. As I said we changed the slider detail etc. I am however quite prepared to admit to user error but I would be very interested to know if anyone else looked at the same area and saw a difference; 017 46 S, 177 11 E

Re: Lack of information on CM93 charts

Hmmm,

My cm93 2011 has NO depths shown for Musket cove or environs. There are some just to the west, but none for Malolo lailai or the cove. (This with OCPN 3.0.0)

Cheers,

Jim

Re: Lack of information on CM93 charts

NixonTankGirl,
Please, scuttle back over there with a usb stick and get a screen grab for us of maxsea showing more detail, can you?

While you're at it sneak a copy of the cm93 folder, just in case it's a better version!

per 017 46 S, 177 11 E , for me with Mariner's Standard all checked and Text on, this is as good as it gets.....

Yep, that's what I get too!

FWIW, I can access two copies, one done in early 2011, one in December. Looking at another cruising hotspot Port Vila, Vanuatu, the former has the detail harbour chart, the latter does not. Interesting...

I get much the same, but I DON'T get the increase in detail in the upper part of the screenshot. There is evidently some variability in what's included with CM93-2 versions. I think my set is 2009?

Re: Lack of information on CM93 charts

CM93 from 2011 is in the Malolo Lailai area, based on US chart 83570.
Earlier versions, for example from 2001 & 2009, are based on US 83574, and contains more details.

As a comparison a current UKHO chart

The CM93 2011 coverage of the whole of the Eastern Part of Viti Levu is only good planning, as no detailed charts are included.

I have a version earlier than 2011 (2009 I think) and even with max details etc I have LESS detail on this area than your first 2011 example

It's difficult to know what to do about this as CM93v2 is no longer controlled. And there is no information about what might be available and what's "missing" from the version you've got.
