Intergrate wireless GPS with open captain

Hi all from south west Florida [Venice]
I am running a laptop below deck with open CPN. With a hockey puck GPS USB receiver which works great with strong almost equal singles of up to twelve satalites. Within a minute + or alittle more.
I am buying a Microsoft pro 12" tablet mounting at the helm 12 " above compass. I have a NEMA 2000 BACK BONE WITH FIVE DROPS ON THE BB. one of the drops is to a wireless router creating a hot spot for my PC which is also which is also a member of NEMA family aboard the boat. Also a VHF which has a integrated GPS chip within. My tablet is not a part of the nema network. Tablet has wireless will it have any ability to pick up GPS DATA WIRELESSLY from one of my two devices connected to the backbone.

Yes. First, you mention a wireless router on the NMEA2000 network. Which router do you currently have?

OpenCPN does not work with NMEA2000 wirelessly, but most wireless NMEA gateways will convert to NMEA0183, which will work with openCPN wirelessly. You would also need to make sure your VHF is making its internal GPS available on the network. Or OpenCPN on your laptop could be configured to send the GPS data on the network.

These are the 2 gateway products I recommend:

Re: Intergrate wireless GPS with open captain

Reading your post again, you could probably just create another connection in OpenCPN on your laptop to send the GPS data to the tablet, assuming both are connected to the same hotspot. Nothing to buy that way.
