Great, Andrew, glad to hear it. You might play with the LANG setting a bit if you want a different language; also there are some posts around here that show how to enable OpenCPN translations, and also how to develop them if you want to help with an ru_RU one.

I emailed Dave about this. Unfortunately the registrar will not listen to me since I'm not registered as the domain owner. Somehow the domain dns pointers changed to:

NS17.DOMAINCONTROL.COM and
NS18.DOMAINCONTROL.COM

brining opencpn.org down.

I'm not sure why this changed all of a sudden but Dave is the only one who can fix this. He is out cruising his boat and probably is off-line.

Hi everyone,
I am a new user of this forum as well as new user to OpenCPN and I hope this is the correct why to ask.
I have a problem I hope someone can help me with. The installation of OpenCPN 1.3.6 went fine and I also loaded CM 93 which works perfect.
I have a GPS device connected to the USB port and it works fine with Seaclear and Maxsea. I have configured it in OpenCPN with the same COM port (also confirmed in device manager) as for Seaclear and Maxsea but nothing happens. If I open the datastream window it is empty (Seaclear has the same functionality and there it looks fine) The device works with a baud rate of 9600 (not changeable) and the port drivers is a “USB to Serial Com port”-driver.

I have tried it on a Window 7 64 bit system, Vista 64 bit system and a window XP 32 bit system. The GPS device works with Seaclear on all OS.
Any ideas?

Sure? Because I believe that this is the source of trouble. AFAIK it is important, that the baud rate is set to 4800. So have a look if you can find another driver/ USB2Serial where you can set the correct rate.

BTW: @all developer
As users committed, their original driver works fine with SeaClear and MaxSea. Perhaps little changes to OCPN could fix these kind of problems? I do believe that a higher rate should not make the whole thing fail.

That explains why it doesn't work. I have updated the GPS drivers but there is only dll's, no updating software where you could change things. So I probably need a new GPS dongle.

Maybe the folloiwing statemant needs to be updated in the helptext:
"NOTE: OpenCPN automatically configures baud rate, bits, parity, etc. These do not need to be separately specified."

Before buying a new dongle you could test other USB2Serial drivers like the one from prolific Welcome to Prolific

That is amazing because it is actually the one I use! But I don't understand how to change boud rate? I dont find an program with userinterface...

Can be a bit intimidating to find if you don't know were to look:
In WinXP:
start/control panel/system/hardware/device manager/ports

Then right click on Prolific choose "port settings"
My driver is: 2.0.13.130 date: 19Nov2009

You have to adjust a bit for differing OSs on Win.

I have tried to change baud rate in the port settings but then nothing works. In SeaClear you see nothing and in a another monitor it is only crap. I need a piece of software the actually changes the setting on the dongle, not the port.... or have I misunderstod something here? This is a bit above my technical competence level....

My driver is 3.3.10.140 with the same date as yours?

Now I have actually being succesfull in changing port settings to 4800. Seaclear shows the correct stream if I keep 9600 in Seaclear set up (strange?). But if I change Seaclear settings to 4800 it shows crap.

But nothing is seen i OpenCPN.

Any ideas?

I have followed the steps exactly but OpenCPN doesn’t receive the data stream, or at least it is not visible in the data stream window. The Baud rate port setting is 4800. The work around mentioned is only 32-bit and I have Window 7 64 bit….

Hi, I have some baud rate problems. I use the GPS Dongle Navibe GM720. My port settings in device manager is 4800 but when I use the software
"GPS Port checker"
(useful program
Img2ozf)
it says baud rate 9600! When double check, the portsettings is still 4800.

Another useful software is "GPS Diahnostics"
(GPSDiag 1.4 - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com where you can see all datastream and GPS information including satelites) "GPS diagnostics" also confirms that the baud rate 9600 is used. Still portsettings is 4800
How is this possible? I have understood that OpenCPN requires 4800 and I am afraid the dongle only can run on 9600 but I am not sure. Do anyone now how to solve this, either get the dongle workin at 4800 (nothing on manufacturers homepage, drivers updated) or a fix to Open CPN or some software in between?

Per, you have to change the dongle port settings, not the windows port settings!!

You *might* be able to use PolarCOM input/output settings to produce a different baud rate. I have not tested this however.
