GPS Fail

Hi all,
I bought a Lenovo x1 Windows tablet a few years back while in Fiji. Loaded up OCPN and it was a seamless transition from my old laptop. Move forward to Djibuti 4 years and my GPS stopped working. I thought it might have been the upgrade to ver. 5.2.6 but idk, perhaps gps chipset in the Lenovo quit working? No problem with GPS prior. I used my old garmin76 for gps for awhile but it is a battery hog at 2 AA batteries per day and it is cumbersome.

While in Sicily recently, I discovered my Lenovo GPS signal is working and uses com 1, but still cannot get it to work on OCPN. It was working on com 12 in OCPN back in the Gulf of Aden. I have read up on GPS but either the OCPN manual doesnt address a lost signal or doesnt talk to me in a way I understand what to do about it.

Has anyone had a similiar issue or any advice on how to fix?

Thanks,
Lauri

Re: GPS Fail

Windows can randomly reassign ports. Have you set the GPS port to port 1 in the ocpn connections tab?

Re: GPS Fail

What do you see in the NMEA debug window for both COM ports?

I added a second Serial nema0183 com1 4800 baudrate priority 1 and kept the original com12 port but enable only one of the serial ports at a time to test.

There isn’t any “enable gps” option on windows. Thank you.

I’m not seeing anything on the 2 serial coms, but when I set it to the imux network I get a GPS failure*49<0x0D <0x0A>. I installed a new GPS antenna for the transponder thinking that was the problem with the transponder, but just to complicate issues; I suspect I need to replace the ais unit. Maybe I’m wrong and this is related, but the transponder hasn’t been working since a storm in Fiji years ago and the gps went out suddenly last spring. Thank you. Lauri

Re: GPS Fail

If you are obtaining position from AIS it uses a higher baud rate 38400.
