Google Earth Overlay for Mac?

Hello all,

Been playing with OpenCPN and have to say I'm loving what I'm seeing so far.
I was just wondering if anyone has coded the Google Earth overlay plug-in for OpenCPN?

I'd love to have this feature but see it's Windows only.
I have a Mac, just wondering if I can help in some way? Or if someone has already converted this over?

It's impossible to implement for a Mac. Unfortunately.

The Google Earth Plugin is based onto the old Google Earth COM API which only works with Windows. Furthermore this API does not work anymore with newer GE version, you need to use GE version 5.2 or older.

There is however a newer GE API available which is told to work with Mac OS X also in desktop applications:

But there is actually no one of the OCPN developers to try this newer API for an OCPN plugin and I don't know if it might be possible at all.

The last time I had a look at this, it needed a permanent internet connection and no caching was possible... That's why I considered it useless...
