Current thoughts on external monitors with Rasp pi Opencpn

Finally got a new Rasp pi 4 after waiting for prices to come back to earth. I am planning on leaving this at my chart table in the cabin as a second station. Have B&G instruments in the cockpit.

I am trying to decide on a monitor that I would mount in the cabin that runs from the pi. I think I would want touchscreen, no mouse/kybd means just 2 less items to knock about the cabin. But I don't know how well raspi/touchscreen/opencpn works?

Also, assuming it does, wondering what brands others are happy/unhappy with? Can go from 10-15". I find non touchscreen 15" for under $100, but have not found many touchscreens at all on amazon that have many reviews. Thanks for any input on this.

For the second monitor I bought to go with my Raspberry Pi 4's in 2019 or 2020, I decided on one that was also a 19" HDTV so I could watch TV when in range.

Video is of my Pi's AIS/Chart Plotter Display plus I was switching over to YouTube for the music video.

thanks for input. Looks great, and good idea on using monitor for watching movies etc when not in open cpn use, but that still needs keybd/mouse. Am wondering if a touchscreen would be a better choice, and what is a good one?

Might be.

I now use my Raspberry Pi Computers as backups.

I refurbished an old Windows Vista Tower Computer with up to date Motherboard, CPU Chip, power supply, solid state disk drive, 24" Monitor, etc. for home use.

So now I have my Toshiba Satellite Laptop w/17" HD screen onboard as my chart plotter with AIS and OpenCPN.

I still use a mouse, but most of the other wire hookups are gone.

Still have the HDTV Onboard if needed to watch the strange programming they have available on there.

I was watching the Munsters on one channel one night at anchor late!?

I can also hardwire the laptop to my Victron 75/15 MPPT Smart (Bluetooth) Solar Controller if I want for a larger display than my phone.

If you haven't considered it yet, the bluetooth on the pi would allow you to use a mini keyboard/mouse combo as a option. Something like this:
