Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

I'm working on chart 21301 and this is the second chart I've seen that specifies a scale latitude that includes seconds. I'm noting the correct value in the comments.

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Please check the resulting chart in OpenCPN after using the web form.
If necessary go back and correct obvious errors. I have seen and corrected a few, almost always wrong lat&long for SW & NE corners. An example this morning.

It doesn't matter who did this one, It's just an illustration. I do errors all the time and just know I have to double check the final kap chart.

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Calibrators...
Some general project statistics are now available at NGA Charts project stats Not as neat as from Netsurfer, but the numbers are there... More to come as time allows.
I've also added chart status and KAP generation timestamp to the chart lists and replaced the chart thumbnails with the scaled down versions of our real data, so if you find a broken thumbnail now, it finally really means our big image is broken.

Cheers

Thomas,

I would appreciate a feedback if you are finding errors. Good for the learning curve...

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Pavel,

the timestamps and the statistics are helpful. Would you mind to add a category "map generated but not checked/locked yet"
Who is giving the final ok for locking?

On the other hand I had about 16 cases in the Region 5 up to now where the pixels for calibration are outbound - so about 10% of the charts. Any progress on this issue?

Some points needs clarification!

Rectangular doable in Phase 1

No plans, all text on land areas.

Rectangular partly doable in Phase 1- With rectangular inserts

The plan is solely on land area, all text on land areas. Later on the plan will be treated as a separate chart and the area where it is now will be grayed out, or perhaps left just white.

Rectangular not doable in Phase 1 because of special PLYs needed

A lot of charts, otherwise doable, ends up in this category. The problem above has to do with the text in the NW corner and the table in the SE corner. Unless these areas are excluded with some extra PLYs, ownship or AIS targets, might end up here, which is not very good. Here is another example.

The NE plan also shows an example where the insert plan also needs extra PLYs , and can't just be ignored

Yikes!excellent Point,Thomas...especially "seagoing texts"!Anyone double-checking their work in OpenCPN (showing quilt borders),if you have a landmass in a corner of the chart, you are probably ok.
Looks to be an Island Nuisance...

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Experts eye and opinion needed:

53266 is a chart with an exotic datum (another similar chart stated "Rome 1940")
When I try to input the datum corrections:
0.03' Southward
0.03' Eastward
the data ends up as 0.03' Northward - no way to correct it.

That would explain a wrong Latitude grid.
The resulting Longitude grid seems to be off to East as well.

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

51380:

resulting chart is panned to east and south (the PLYs and coordinates are correct - checked again) resulting in an offset to the grid and having the border grids north and west visible.
This chart is very skewed (50px Y, 80px X).

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Thomas,

issue of charts with text/tables/annotation in navigation areas:
51380 has this as well (UTM information and drawing of source charts).
Yes, this can be treated like inserted chartlets blanking these zones out.

But is this really necessary? When working with a paper chart you are facing the same handicap. Just a thought.

in other words,I am relying on the diagonals and the "border".I do this because Older calibration marks are actually thickening the inside corners(you've seen em,mostly purple, but here it is black)
Is that correct?

Happy,

Same as me, using the marks as an additional parameter to get through the blue, purple, black "drops of ink"

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

yes,it makes sense and it easier to "decide",too.Trouble is,I've been "learning" on my first charts and I want to go back and doublecheck my first 20(or m last 20!) to comply exactly, when I know "exactly" what is best.

PS,bcn-I wanted to go and play with your 53266 but it's locked.Someone is there brooding over it!

Error in the script saving the input... Fixed.
I will go through all the charts with corrections set and fix them if needed, there's just 35 of them...

Thanks
