AIS to OpenCPN serial pin #s

I have a new VHF/AIS and want to send NMEA data from it to the computer for OpenCPN. My computer (Acer Aspire1) doesn't have a serial port so I will have to use a serial/USB adapter, then another serial cable to the VHF. But which pins on the serial conn. will I use? I saw a recent post re: pins 5 and 7 for NMEA 0183, are those the correct ones? Thanks in advance.

No. Normally you connect NMEA + to pin 2 (RxD) and NMEA - to pin 5 (SG)
