2.1.0 problem with AIS/GPS input --crash!

Hi,
I just started on an Atlantic circuit for a year and also started using Open CPN.

I run v 2.1.0 on an Asus Netbook running Windows 7. Using comar CSB200 AIS transponder as AIS and GPS input. USB tot serial adaptar from Belkin running latest Prolific driver. Setup works great, but after a while the GPS data is suddenly not found anymore. Sometimes I can close and reopen Open CPN - after which still the GPS data is not found. Sometimes the program hangs - doesn't close anymore. Only a full restart of the computer solves the issue, after which it works again... until the next GPS fallout.

Obviously this is very inconvenient and always happens at a bad time. Any suggestions as to what could cause this problem?

Cheers,

unfortunately I cannot present you a solution for your problem, but maybe give you some hints to test and localize the heart of the matter.

  1. Have you checked your antenna? Maybe there is a loose contact or the cable is broken somewhere?
  2. Have you set the NMEA Baudrate (Toolbox -> GPS) to 4800? Tried other values?
  3. If you have another GPS receiver (for backup) try to connect this one separately from your AIS receiver. Does the problem still occur?
  4. What are the settings for the COM port (in Windows)?
Hope it helps - good luck,

Gunther

I experienced something similar with a too big tracks with too many points . Deleted all tracks solved the problem . Now I limit track points creation to a reasonable size
