Winlink 2000 Servers in Africa.

Hi All,

There are two brand new WINMOR (sound card TNC) servers for the Winlink 2000 email via HF radio system in Southern Africa.

Download and install the free RMS Express software onto your boat computer and start sending and receiving emails and all kinds of attachments via HF radio.
1000,s of miles out on the High Seas.
No Pactor TNC is needed.

See www.winlink.org

Re: Winlink 2000 servers in Africa.

Hi Hamsailor, I just arrived in Durban a week ago and haven't been able to connect to Winlink since about half way across the Indian Ocean. Supposed to be a couple stations near here but can't connect. Was just looking at options thru my sat phone or cell modem. Not sure how the sound card TNC works but will check it out NOW! Thanks for your timely post.

Cheers, Greg, s/v Cocokai, KF6OID

Re: Winlink 2000 servers in Africa.

Greg,

WINMOR (RMS Express) works really well.
Speeds between Pactor 2 and Pactor 3.....

The Signalink USB is the computer to radio interface of choice.

OTHERWISE....

Use a computer external microphone to listen to the radio's speaker.
Use the radio's microphone to listen to the computers's speaker cross-wise.
Turn the radio's VOX on.
Set the VOX Delay to minimum.
Easy, but keep the ambient noise low. Engine, dog, woman, etc....
The Signalink USB gives you a pure audio signal.
Important for speed.
About $100.

Join the WINMOR Yahoo Group for a wealth of info.
Also see the RMS Express Help File.

Make sure you also downloaded the VOACAP itshfbc file for HF propagation prediction.
Works in conjunction with RMS Express.

Hamsailor.

Re: Winlink 2000 servers in Africa.

Otherwise just update your Airmail PMBO list per the normal procedure.

The two new stations, V51PJ (Namib Desert) and ZS1RS (Cape Town), show up on the new PMBO list.
They both run Pactor as well as WINMOR.
