Re: What is name of this vhf?

I am definitely not an expert but I have seen mics like these on ham radios (more than marine vhfs). Could it be a ham?

Oh Lordy, you've got a lot to learn here.
vhf and Ham radio are two entirely different things.
vhf is basically line of sight communication, about 20-25 miles, give or take, depending on where your vhf antenna is located.
Ham radio can be used for worldwide communication, but requires getting a ham license and much experience.

To clarify, VHF is a frequency range. Some ham radios as well as some marine radios operate on the VHF spectrum. A ham radio and some marine radios can operates on VHF as well as other segments of the spectrum such as HF.

To your question, the mic pictured is definitely from a ham radio. It’s impossible to be more specific.

Some 2m ham radios can be modified to transmit out of band on marine frequencies but it is technically illegal to do so. You might have one of those.

That’s what I did. It’s called commonly a MARS Mod. While higher quality ones don’t produce much if any spurious emissions, the cheap ones from China do. Also, ham radios broadcast at much higher power than marine radios (for instance, channels 13 and 67 are only supposed to use 1 watt, so I have to change my output power from 50W to 5W and am still out of compliance since I can’t reduce the power to 1W)
