Transducer Options for Garmin GPSMAP Chartplotter

I am looking to replace my electronics. Planning to go with a Garmin GPSMAP chatplotter which comes with the 12-pin orange sonar plug however, I expect to likely require the 8-to-12 pin adapter cable.

I am curious about recommendations for a thru-hull transducer that will provide depth readings for the chartplotter?

Also do people still use the pin-wheel type transducers for speed readings or is it more common to just rely on the GPS speed readings?
