SSB Radio Installation in the Boston Area ?

I would like to install an SSB radio in my sailboat. I am particularly interested in the Icom ICM802. I would like assistance with the installation but am having problems finding qualified engineers in the Boston area. Any suggestions? cheers Phil

I am almost done installing mine. Not as hard as I originally thought. There are many good services that can assist you. Additionally, you can get/read the SSB for idi-yachts books.

The IcomAmerica web site can give you the 802 manual, which has a detailed section on "CONFECTION AND INSTALLATION". Yeah, "Confection". But it does really go into good detail. There's also a dealer locator for authorized dealers, who should also be able to refer you to someone for the actual installation. The nuts and bolts of it aren't all that exotic until you come to the antenna. "Good" antenna design on a boat tends to still be as much of an art as a science.

Or, you could try asking around your docks/club, look for other boats with the telltale antenna cable coming out to the backstay, etc. and ask if they can recommend someone local. Don't be afraid to ask for quotes, like anything else some guys are just more reasonable and professional than others.

Are you in downtown Boston, or one of the suburbs? I know a few people on the North Shore who might be able to help. I'd help, but I'm in Key West right now.
