Raymarine X5 Pilot Tiller vs Wheel

Hi,
Before installing my new to me Raymarine X5 course computer, i just want to confirm that the computer is the same in a Wheel kit and a Tiller kit, the computer i'm installing is coming from a Wheel sailboat and i'm about to install it with my Tiller Drive unit (Previously used with a Raytheon ST4000+). Pretty sure it's ok but we never know

Thanks

Pretty sure you set drive type during setup - same computer. You have a linear drive. You’ll need to set endpoints if you don’t have a rudder angle sensor, and center it before attaching. Check the manual at raymarine

Certainly worth adding a rudder reference unit particularly if you have access to the rudder shaft below decks. We bought a second hand unit as they are expensive new and there isn't much to go wrong with them.

Re: Raymarine X5 Pilot Tiller vs Wheel

I got a second wheel drive unit as I am not sure of the ruggedness of the drive unit itself. I have already replaced the motor (a small 555 unit - I think worth about $10) and have done a belt (which cost about $120 to replace I think).

In the end I was worried enough about the drive unit to install Pypilot as well as the Raymarine. So I have a spare drive, a drive on the wheel I don't use and the PyPilot drive I do. So keep an eye out for a spare drive, we used it when we did a belt when offshore and swapped the units over.

I don't have a rudder angle unit as it is hard to get one to fit our cat. The system worked okay and steered us for a few thousand coastal miles.

cheers
