Pactor Cables for Furuno 1562-15?

Hi, I've got a Furuno 1562-15 SSB that was given to me, model year 2001.. I'm interested in buying a pactor modem so I can fully utilize my Sailmail subscription.. I've read that the cable between the SSB and pactor are somewhat of a custom item. There seem to be plenty of pre-made cables for all the Icom radios, but I imagine that nothing like this is available for my Furuno... Does anyone have experience using this radio in conjunction with a pactor modem? If so, anyone have a wiring diagram for the custom cable? Thanks!

Hi I know this is a really old thread. But did you ever got this sorted out?? I have a 1562-25 and I ve got a chance of buying a pactor really cheap. Just not buying if I'm not sure it will work.

Best regards,

Joao

If you can find the various connectors, the wiring is trivial. When I was helping people install these, it usually took me more time to find exactly the right connectors. The premade cables from Farallon were only about $40/each. Even at my beer pay rate it was better to order the cables.

So the pre-made cable from. Farallon to the furuno is 139 USD plus shipping to Panama easely goes to 200 USD and about 3 weeks waiting for it.

I can make it if I have the pinout. Because I'm not in the mood to spend 200 bucks in one cable.

Thks,

Joao

If you’ve got the connectors and pin outs, I wouldn’t pay $139 either. They’ve obviously raised their prices since I last looked.

You don’t say which Pactor, but you need to be careful when you buy the DIN plug. There are two different pin diameters available. If you end up with the bigger pins, they can break the socket. The pin outs for the Pactor were in the manuals, available online. Can’t help,on the Furuno side.

Re: Pactor Cables for Furuno 1562-15?

Another gotcha maybe. The older Pactor II modems were enabled for the Pactor III upgrade purely by software. They have no built-in hardware ID. So, SCS tied the upgrade to the station call sign in the modem. It’s been a long time since I played with this, but sometimes the modem had to be returned to Germany for "servicing" if you wanted to use a different call sign. I’d check directly with SCS so you know what you’re getting into.
