NMEA Connection Sealant

Advice needed from NMEA experts on CF.
Do you use a sealant or dielectric on your N2K connections, or just finger tight?

Re: NMEA Connection Sealant

NMEA2000 connectors are designed to be watertight, so no dielectric grease or sealant for me.

Re: NMEA Connection Sealant

I usually put a little silicone grease on the threads of the retaining ring. If the connection is outside, maybe DeOxIt on the contacts. Am I religious about it? No. It may not help, but doesn’t hurt anything.

Re: NMEA Connection Sealant

Thanks Bycrick, all my connections are pretty well protected so I'll follow the advice given and not worry about sealants or conductivity enhancers.

Re: NMEA Connection Sealant

The silicone on the threads can, maybe, make it easier to loosen the retaining nut. Sometimes they get hard to remove and there’s not much room for fingers or pliers.
