New Garmin System :)

Just finished installing and wiring a new garmin 740s , and hd radar , along with standard horizon gx 2150 radio with ais . So awesome I just can't hardly stand it , like it so much better than my friends raymarine system . Stilll need a few more instruments like wind , but should get me where I need to be , and so much fun to play with

That's awesome, I've been thinking about the 740s and radar. Good to hear that you like it. Did you also hook up the AIS data to the plotter via nema wire?

Yes I did hook up the ais from the radio. Looks great. Sheesh , the radio has a bigger owners manual than the 740s and the radar combined. May not live long enough to figure out all the stuff that radio does.

Re: New Garmin System :)

cool, garmin rocks. I've had a handheld for years and when it came to kit out the boat went garmin the whole way for exactly the same reasons.

We are getting that Standard horizon radio to integrate with the new chart plotter ( 4012 ). We just need to hook up the garmin autopilot and wind sensor which should give us a good reliable system once all connected. We still have an old furuno radar and sounder so most likely wont get new just yet, if we ever do. We will try and hook the sounder in via the nmea though.

It will be a lot of installing work but i think it will be worth it to have the fully integrated system and by the sounds of your success and satisfaction we've done the right thing

All this new garmin gear has exceeded all my expectations . Friend with the ready marine system on his $ 600, 000 seawind catamaran is so jealous , I an giggling . And the whole system radar and radio included , is less than he paid for his display unit

Re: New Garmin System :)

We are running a Garmin 4211 on the bridge and a 4208 networked at the lower helm. Depth, temp and DSC all included along with Garmin radar.

I have formerly always used Raytheon and certainly they make a great product but the interface in the Garmin is cleaner and easier. Just really liking it.
