iPad2 Aluminum?

It looks to me like the iPad2 has an aluminum back panel. I have been searching in vain for a holder I like at the helm; I'm thinking about making my own out of aluminum (I have a full fab shop).

Does anyone know:

1. Is in fact the back of an iPad aluminum?
2. Will a second layer of aluminum affect the performance of the GPS or cellular signal if the front is still open?
3. Does anyone know if there is such a commercial product already in existance for the iPad2?

BTW, I have already made a similar holder for my iPhone on my motorcycle

It is some ultra tech magnesium alloy that I don't think exists outside of Apple, but no it is not simple aluminum. I came across this when I was looking for a case:

Interesting mount..... but not NEARLY as robust as I had in mind!

So.... if it it magnazumnium or some such alloy, I have to assume it is radio opaque? If true, my additional layer of aluminum would not be a problem.
