Garmin Plotter Registration and Charts?

Bought a used boat with a recently purchased plotter. If I deregister the former owner, can I register myself as the new owner without losing access to the charts? I believe they're on an inserted memory stick, as when I pull it out the maps populate/ depopulate.

It would be nice to have my previous tracks saved to my memory card though, as I've already sailed a few hundred NM.

I believe their are some settings I'm unable to adjust, like the ships depth etc which impact the auto guidence features.

Anybody know how to do this?

If the charts are on a card that is populated by Active Captain, they’re linked to the previous owner. To really make the plotter yours you’ll need to deregister the previous owner, the previous owner will need to deregister as well (or you wait a short period for Garmin to deregister them), then you register the unit to yourself and purchase the charts again.

You can save the tracks though.

You can also use garmin express
