Garmin Compatiblity

I'm considering upgrading my chart plotter. I don't know much about the various brands of electronics, however, Garmin has this that fits my current thru-hulls, and I was considering pairing it with this chart plotter.

My question is, how can I verify compatibility? And do I need to run a nmea2k network to interface the sensors and chart plotter? (No big deal if I do) I'd also like to add a AIS, but I don't know which unit. Here's an example of what I'm considering. Will this communicate with the chart plotter over nmea2k?) and will I be able to overlay AIS targets on the chart?
