Furuno 1623 issue "no radar returns"

Hey all,

Just installed a 1623 and followed all directions implicitly. Radome is mast mounted - 10M cable through the cabin and wired up.

It turns on, warms up, and I can hear the thing rotating up there when I switch TX on, but there are NO RETURNS! I'm in my marina and there is stuff everywhere, yet zero returns on the screen.

Scanner test mode shows 41RPM, and scanner OK (cd) whatever that means...

What's going on here? Did I miss something? I'll call furuno next but was hoping somewhere out there may have a quick remedy.

I have the 1721 and I would steer you to look again at the wiring from the radome to the display. The video feed comes down the small coaxial cable that they call the 2C2V. The very small interior of that wire carries the signal and the outside braid is a ground. Check that small interior wire is not broken as it goes into connectors.

That's exactly what the furuno USA tech support guy said today.

Crap. Looks like I'm going up the mast. I wired it on the ground and was pretty sure it was all secured when I sealed it, but who knows.

Fingers crossed that I don't have to re thread a new cable through the mast!

I would start at the deck fitting and check that first. Every year when I step the mast in the spring I have to make sure that wire is installed properly.

Is the gain up? Is the screen brightness turned up? Is the range turned down for sitting inside your marina? Is the rain clutter and sea clutter turned down? Is it on all the right settings otherwise?

My cable isn't spliced anywhere. The deck fitting is one of those rubber gasket types where I ran the cable through whole.

If its the video line, it's gotta be in the radome. I had to fight with the wires to get that EMI magnet in there.... Probably came loose then...

If it comes to that, attach the new coax to the old and just use the old as a fish to pull the new through the mast.

Yeah.. Those 10M cables are like 3-400 bucks. Hope it doesnt come to that... But good plan if it does

Update - sending the whole thing back to Furuno!
