pirate Fix for RM SmartPilot X-5?

A poster recently commented on fixing her AP. Mine is kinda hard to get to so before I remove it to send to factory, thought I'd inquire about a simple fix. It turns on, steers for a few minutes, then doesn't turn off but doesn't steer either.

Anyone had this same prob, whatever it is, and found a simple DIY fix?

Maybe corrosion in the deck connection?

Re: Fix for RM SmartPilot X-5?

When I installed my X5 the pilot it would work sometimes, sometimes it wouldn't. It was working the morning I left for Hawaii so left it on for the whole trip. The self steering vane actually steered the boat, just wanted the x5 as backup. Sent it back to RM and they tested it and reported nothing wrong with the brain but sent me another unit in the place of mine. That one has worked flawlessly for years. Intermittant problems with the electronics may not be repeatable and a real pain to figure out and get fixed.

Thanks mucho. I'll check the corrosion angle for sure but what I can see without surgery looks good. Much obliged Peter.
