I have yet to encounter any ham radio operator who has been using the 9cm band and is willing and able to explain why they chose it rather than any of a number of other bands with similar properties.

The FCC ruled that it will revoke amateur radio privileges on the 3300-3500 MHz (9-cm Microwave band). The FCC will auction the band to wireless telecom companies to support 5G rollouts across the United States.
Follow the money, folks.

5G, something you will probably never use.
