Re: B&g chartplotter turns into expensive paperweight

I agree with the display cable diagnosis, at least in terms of items that can be readily fixed. It could also be a display driver problem but let's just hope not. Use spray contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol to clean. If the connector is in good shape then make/break the connection multiple times to "wipe" the contacts.

Good luck. Greg

I've got the same model of MFD. They're getting pretty old now, so it probably isn't the end of the world if it has to be replaced.

As others have said though, there is a good chance it's just a bad connection at a ribbon cable connector. If you're up for it, strip it down and give everything a clean with contact cleaner and include a bit of silicon grease on the electrical connections. If that fixes it, reassemble with a bit of automotive rtv sealant to make it watertight (if needed).

If its inside 5yrs they do a latest replacement heavily discounted.
If not I'd go for the 9" Vulcan with built in WiFi, as long as you don't want to network displays and you are happy with no knobs.
The touch came out nearly 10 yrs ago.
I had Triton T41 with the same problem and upgraded on <5yrs "advantage offer"
